Microsoft is throttling availability of Windows 10 20H2

Despite Windows 10 20H2 only being available to seekers currently, Microsoft is still being quite cautious about its roll-out.

In the Windows 10 Health dashboard, the company revealed that current delivery is throttled, so that even if you are a seeker with no specific blocks Microsoft may still not offer the OS update to you.

They write:

Current status as of October 20, 2020

Windows 10, version 20H2 is available for users with devices running Windows 10, versions 1903 and higher who manually seek to “Check for updates” via Windows Update. The recommended servicing status is Semi-Annual Channel.

Note We are slowly throttling up availability over the coming weeks to ensure a reliable download experience. As a result, the update may not be offered to you right away. For more details, see How to get the Windows 10 October 2020 Update.

Microsoft may be waiting to see if any more issues pop up. Currently, there are two unmitigated issues still under investigation:

KNOWN ISSUES
Summary Originating update Status Last updated

Errors or issues during or after updating devices with certain Conexant audio drivers
Devices with affected Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers might receive a stop error with a blue screen.

N/A Investigating 2020-10-20

Errors or issues during or after updating devices with Conexant ISST audio drivers
Devices with affected Conexant ISST audio drivers might receive an error or have issues with Windows 10, version 2004.

If you are desperate for what is a relatively minor update, you can still force the update via the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.

This is nothing new  they been doing this every since they released  Windows 10 1809 October 2018 update  that was full of bugs into the wild and pulled it and re-released it in NOV 2018  only 1 in 10 users had  it  Jan  2019 . They should of been doing this since 2015  but they  released  TH 1 like 6 months early  and sent out  (GWX)  malware   to Windows 7 and 8.1  to roll them over to Windows 10 it caused  many people to stop doing updates even causing a security risk years before they ended  support  for Windows 7 then  Malware with Virus  started showing up like Wantacry and Peta and lots of people got infected and tell this day lots of people are still getting infected from  not doing software updates  anything that uses the internet they can find a hole in.  People  who upgraded in 2015 was having issues  with Drivers  way back then Vendors were not even ready for it. Now people  who took the free upgrade  M$ is blocking old hardware's drivers now that the vendors drop support  from being installed. I'm not a fan of Windows  but some of the stuff Microsoft  does to there users is amusing. It makes me glad i switch to Linux  .:P

Reasonable move, especially for those who are still using 19H2 or earlier builds, considering all the hiccups of 20H1.

For those already on 20H1 though, it is just a 80 MB update file, which you can manually apply. It is remarkably straightforward.

Details can be found at TenForums.
