AI-powered digital writing assistant Grammarly has been updated with a couple of new features. Users of the Grammarly browser extension will soon be able to take advantage of the new update which started rolling out today. The new options focus on helping professionals with their writing style rather than just correcting grammatical errors.

First off, a floating new sidebar has been added and it will be accessible to all users, free-tier as well as premium. This feature was previously only available to users of the Chrome extension on Google Docs. The sidebar will display the usual feedback such as grammatical mistakes, spelling errors, better wording and the tone of the content.

Grammarly's premium users will have further in-depth suggestions based on their writing goals, clarity, tone, formatting, and more. The sidebar in the premium version will also offer a more detailed tone predictor which will offer users a look at how readers may perceive the writing. This will be divided into a primary tone and a secondary tone.

Premium users will also receive offers to reconstruct entire sentences to make them less confusing. This will include rephrasing, splitting a sentence into two or more or removing unnecessary words. Other suggestions exclusive to the paid Grammarly Chrome extension include formatting suggestions to improve readability which will shorten long lists into bullet points and recommendations to write important dates and deadlines in bold to highlight them.

Lastly, Grammarly Premium will also offer tailored suggestions to multilingual speakers who do not speak English natively. The AI-powered writing tool will curate recommendations based on the mistakes commonly made by users who speak certain languages. Grammarly will start with Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, French, and German speakers but more languages will be added in the future.

The new updates started rolling out today and will be available to all Grammarly users by early October. Meanwhile, Grammarly Business and Grammarly Education customers will receive the updates on October 14, 2020.
