Google is testing a share icon in the toolbar for Chrome on Android

Google released Chrome 80 earlier this month that came with a few privacy features, including changes to SameSite Cookie. Now, the search giant is testing the inclusion of a share button in the toolbar for Chrome on Android. The functionality is currently not turned on by default but can be enabled through an experimental flag.

To enable the share icon, users can head to chrome://flags#share-button-in-top-toolbar and enable the ‘Share Button in Top Toolbar’ feature. Users will have to be running Chrome Canary for the feature to be enabled. As the name suggests, the flag enables a share icon right next to the tab icon in the toolbar. Hitting the icon brings up the share menu as one would expect.

Though minor, this is a nifty addition to the browser since it negates the need to click on the three dots and hit share from the menu. The Edge browser on Android places a share icon inside the menu on the toolbar which is present at the bottom of the screen, making it convenient for users on mobile.

While this feature is currently limited only to Chrome on Android, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it make it to the desktop browser. Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge browser’s PC counterpart is slated to get a share icon on the toolbar according to the roadmap released by the Redmond giant this week.
