Is there a topic here at nsane about this? One day? I use dbpoweramp CD Ripper which uses freedb.

EDIT: Not one day, it's closing down.

btw foobar2000 uses this as well

It would be a great time for them to add MusicBrainz instead  like Strawberry has also they have

( It's a Clementine fork ) Were Clementine hardly ever gets updates it's no good for tagging , arts  , Lyrics  like Strawberry is were gets updates  a lot  still.

freedb is GPL (open source )  like MusicBrainz is , so you can download the database  and host it on your own server but it want never get updated  tags .

According to the freedb site, and if I got it right, the database is a bit less than 1GB and there is an updater.exe too (http://ftp.freedb.org/pub/freedb/).

But how does this help? If someone took over and provider a server, I can how this could help.

Moved from General News.

(It's a discussion about a site change which historically has been a "Technology" topic, so belongs better here)
