overlocking is not recommended for laptops because of lack of cooling

also note u in cpu name. means it is a. low power chip hece less powerful version of the same chup. without the u

I see but amazon doesnt state that in those pics. So how can they say it is up to 3.9GHz? Or is this false advertisement?

Why do sites such as amazon advertise cpu speed of "up to 3.9GHz" and then when you look at the tech details, it is listed as "1.6GHz" on laptops? Overclocking? I read on some sites it is not a good idea to overclock if that is the case. Is that true concerning laptops?

Hello, I understand your concern. IMHO it is always best to purchase from the company direct, not thru a 3rd party like amazon. You will get a better idea of what you are actually buying, and always call and talk to a sales rep for questions that you can not resolve on the web page. ..............as for O/C a lappy, prolly not a great idea. One exception that comes to mind is ASUS ROG series.

It's not false advertising, and the seller is just not "copying" whatever specs.

The processor has a base speed of 1.6 GHz, but it can reach a Maximum speed of 3.90 GHz. You don't need to overclock the processor, this is something that the processor was designed to do. It's an Intel feature, it's called Turbo Boost Technology.

Here's a link with the information:

Also, in the processor information that @bayeris posting, it clearly states this information.

If you click on the "?" icon to the right side of "Max Turbo Frequency" it actually explains it to you

TL;DR

The amazon advertisement is correct, the speeds are correct, and you don't need to do any overclocking yourself. The processor does it on its own.

It's safe.

I doubt cpu will reach that speed in a mibile setup.. it is just like car max speed and usual running speed

That's why the Amazon advertisement states "up to". At no point they're stating "guaranteed".

Whenever becomes really hot and you need the calculation power then goes down to the base frequency often, so the turbo-duper-max frequencies on laptops are quite useless. But for example desktop CPUs have already 3.x GHz as base!

It will reach to top speed when cpu working on single core.
