BIOS UPDATE

Having done a system update using LENOVO VANTAGE, a legitimate aplication for my Lenovo Ideapad, it recommends critical update for my laptop's bios. The laptop is about 2 years old. It should use the BIOS downloaded from the official site and the proper Lenovo application, so not supposed to use a BIOS and flash application downloaded from a "third site"

Do I need to "repair" something that works well?

Is there any risk that this procedure shoud fail and "brick" my laptop?

I have a computer I bought 12 years ago and works just fine with it's original BIOS so, is a BIOS update really "critical"

If it aint broken dont fix it.

Although it goes most of the time right theres always a risk in doing it.

Check lenovo's site about bios versions/changes.

If the new bios fixes issues you have problem with, then update; otherwise keep the original bios as it is.

Exactly!

If you have no issues, forget about it.

If you experience a problem and a new bios revision can correct it, I'd update the bios.

Make sure the battery is sufficiently charged and the laptop is plugged in.

Power failure during a bios update will brick most PC's, but not all.

Some have a bios designed with a failsafe in such an event.

I've done many dozens of bios revisions over the years with only 1 mishap around 15 years ago.

The AchieVer

Download the BIOS update from Lenovo < Run the downloaded file as an admin < click yes to the update < just wait till the update is flashed.

NOTE:

1.Power on the laptop , so there is no power failure.

2.Do not interrupt the process. It will reboot the system and thereafter flash the BIOS update.

It’s quite simple and I do update as and when it’s available from Lenovo.

Regards

did that for an hp 6200 pro, had v 6.15 bios,  now 6.32  learned too late it has very long restart / reboot time  pfffffff  and you cant go back

Read the bios notes / infos and do a search before doing anything,  and  if its working well  do nothing.  my 2 cents

remove the Lenovo app that checks for bios updates.

if you have no problems  then do not update the bios

you have to remove the Lenovo app that makes the chek ups for updates.

you do not need this program.

it can only create problems.

bios updates are only for problem solving or better support for newer hardware.

Read the changes txt on the site support Lenovo.
