It sports a clean and straightforward layout that offers quick access to the files and folders stored in your computer, so you can easily select the photo that you want to process. The program works with the following file formats: JPG, PSD, PSB, TIF, and PNG file format. Plus, the edited pictures can exported to the same file formats. You can view information about each photo (e.g. creation and modification dates, exposure, size), compare files in a dual panel, use a magnifier and histogram, as well as work with multiple layers and select the blending method (e.g. soft, hard, or vivid light, darker color, color burn). Plus, you are allowed to adjust the levels of hue, saturation, color, and luminosity. ON1 Effects lets you crop or trim images, use various brushes, correct the red eye flaws, zoom in or out, switch to a full screen mode for a better focus on the editing process, undo or redo your actions, adjust the canvas size, preview the changes made to the picture, check the “Before” and “After” results, as well as duplicate, delete, or merge layers. The utility offers support for various special effects, which are grouped into different categories, so you can easily identify them, namely Black & White, Brightness, Color Correction, Film Grain, Glow, Movie Looks, True Film, Vignettes, Vintage, HDR, Grunge, and many others. You need to take some time and experiment with all these effects, and see which one fits your editing preferences. The preview functionality is a big plus, as you can easily click on the desired effect and see how the photo is adjusted really fast. Plus, you can create a list with favorite presets and add effects into a stack. During our testing we have noticed that Perfect Effects accomplishes a task quickly and provides excellent output results. It is not quite friendly with system resources, so the overall performance of the computer may be hampered. All in all, ON1 Effects provides a powerful set of special effects, editing tools, and a decent performance.
