After a one-week delay due to a major issue with its add-ons mechanism, Open Source company Mozilla officially released the Firefox 67 cross-platform web browser today for Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android.

Mozilla Firefox 67 comes with numerous performance improvements and new features to make your Firefox browsing experience better. To improve the overall performance, Mozilla did a few internal changes, such as to lower the priority of the "setTimeout" function during loading of web pages, delayed the component initialization until after Firefox's start up, as well as to suspend unused tabs.

A key feature of the Firefox 67 release, which most users will love, it's a built-in cryptominer blocker, which blocks fingerprinters as well. You can find it in the Custom settings page of the Content Blocking preferences, so if you notice that your Firefox web browser eats too much RAM and CPU, try enabling these functions immediately and restart the web browser.

The Private Browsing mode has been improved as well in this release and it now lets users save passwords for websites, as well as to choose the add-ons they don't want to be included in the private tabs. The keyboard accessibility was also enhanced to make both the toolbar and toolbar overflow menu, including add-ons and downloads panel, fully accessible with the keyboard.Firefox is now easier to useWith the Firefox 67 release, Mozilla made its popular and open-source web browser easier to use for everyone by implementing a toolbar menu for easy access and more transparency of your Firefox Account, support for pinning tabs from the Page Actions menu in the address bar, as well as the ability to highlight various features, such as Pin Tabs.

Furthermore, it's now easier to access the list of your saved website credentials directly from the main menu and login autocomplete, quickly import web data from other web browsers directly from the File menu, and run different versions (e.g. beta, nightly, and stable) of Firefox side by side by default at the same time.

Among other noteworthy changes included in Firefox 67, we can mention support for the dav1d AV1 higher performance decoder for better and bandwidth friendly video streaming, protection against running older versions of Firefox that may lead to data corruption or crashes, and support for registrations for Google Accounts using the FIDO U2F API.

Support for the new Reiwa era in Japan has been added as well, along with support for Emoji 11.0, support for ARM64 Windows devices in Mozilla's JavaScript compiler, and an improved Pocket experience in Firefox Home. The WebRender feature is now enabled by default for all Windows 10 users that have a computer equipped with an Nvidia graphics card. What's new for Android usersFor Android users, Firefox 67 brings a new Firefox Search widget that features voice input. Users can add the new widget from the Android Widget section to their home screen. Additionally, Firefox 67 for Android removes the Guest Session feature in an attempt to streamline the user experience. Users are urged to use Private Browsing instead.

It's also worth mentioning that Firefox 67 changes the way add-ons behave in Private Windows, meaning that users will now need to allow newly installed extensions to work in Private Windows in the preferences, and it's no longer possible to upload and share screenshots via the Firefox Screenshots server as it will be closed in the coming months.

Firefox 67 is now rolling out to Windows and Mac users via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, so you can install it just by accessing the About Firefox window. Linux users will have to wait until Firefox 67 is available in the stable software repositories of their favorite GNU/Linux distributions.

Latest version of Firefox brings improvements to speed and privacy

Mozilla has released a new update to the Firefox web browser today, bringing it to version 67. The update primarily focuses on speed, improving the overall load times when a user requests a webpage.

The latest update now deprioritizes features that aren’t used very often by its users, which in turn leave more room for the computer to focus more on processing the web page as opposed to wasting its resourcing on unused features. For example, the browser now focuses on loading the main scripts first for sites like Amazon, Google, and Instagram for a 40-80% boost in performance by delaying the less commonly used scripts. It also now scans alternative style sheets only after the page fully loads, and also no longer loads the auto-fill module unless an actual form is available.

Additionally, Firefox will also now suspend idle tabs to focus processing and memory to the main ones when the user’s available memory drops to below 400 MB. And those who customize their browsers with add-ons will be pleased that it no longer performs all of the unnecessary work from an initial startup all over again after a subsequent launch.

Of course, speed isn’t the only thing that have been packaged into this update. Additional privacy features, which Mozilla’s browser has well received for, have also been bundled in. In addition to blocking trackers, the update now allows users to prevent other size from tracking their fingerprints as well as using their computers processors to mine cryptocurrencies.

Those who use the private browsing in Firefox will now be able to benefit from two additional improvements. The auto-fill form now works in this mode just as it does normally, and users can choose to enable or disable certain add-ons that they might want or prefer not to use.

Firefox definitely serves as a compelling replacement to the other giants Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, especially those who are big on privacy. Feel free to sound off what you think in the comments.

The recently released Mozilla Firefox 67 web browser is now available for download from the official software repositories of all supported Ubuntu Linux operating systems.

The Firefox 67 web browser arrived on May 21st, 2019, and promises to be the fastest Firefox release to date thanks to the numerous internal performance improvements implemented by Mozilla. Firefox 67 also comes with a built-in crypto miner and fingerprinter blocker, and a much-improved Private Browsing mode.

One of the coolest new features of the Firefox 67 web browser is the ability to finally run different builds of Firefox at the same time. As such, users can now install and run the Firefox stable, beta, and nightly versions all side by side, or install and use both the latest stable and the ESR (Extended Support Release) version simultaneously.

Other noteworthy features implemented in Firefox 67 include the dav1d AV1 high-performance decoder for streaming videos on lower bandwidth and on higher quality, support for the new Reiwa era in Japan, an improved Pocket experience, and numerous accessibility enhancements.Firefox 67 is now available for Ubuntu releasesIf you're using Ubuntu, one of the most popular Linux-based operating systems out there, you can now install the latest Firefox 67 web browser as we speak on your personal computers. To do that, you must launch the Software Updates utility or the Ubuntu Software app, check for updates, and install Firefox 67.

Firefox 67 is currently available for all supported Ubuntu releases, including Ubuntu 19.04 (Disco Dingo), Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish), Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus). We recommend updating your Ubuntu PCs to Firefox 67 as soon as possible.

Of course, many other GNU/Linux distributions have released the Firefox 67 web browser for their users, so if you're using a different Linux OS make sure you check the repositories for the latest Firefox release.
