The beta version of Microsoft’s new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser has just leaked and can be downloaded right now straight from the company’s own servers.

What’s important to know, however, is that despite the downloads being served by Microsoft, this is an unofficial release of Microsoft Edge beta, as the company hasn’t yet announced the release.

Officially, Microsoft only supports Microsoft Edge Canary and Dev for Windows 10.

There are several things that you should have in mind when downloading this beta build of Microsoft Edge for Windows 10.

Same version as the latest Dev release
First of all, the downloaded files need to be renamed to the .exe format to have the installer fire up. Then, because this is an unofficial release, the built-in update engine does not work and displays an error, as you can see in the screenshot here.

The version number of this beta is 75.0.139.7, which is exactly the same as the most recent Dev build shipped to testers earlier this week. There’s a chance this is just an early beta build that Microsoft is testing internally, so it doesn’t bring any new features versus the existing preview versions of the browser.

Early builds of Microsoft Edge for macOS also got leaked earlier this week. Officially, Microsoft lists Edge for macOS preview as “coming soon,” just like the Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 siblings. The beta was originally expected to land later this year after the first previews for the other platforms launch.

You can download the new beta using the links below, but keep in mind this is still an unofficial release, so you won’t get anything new over the existing preview builds of Edge.
