why not move stored data to the new drive, freeing up the current drive?

if you had bought a SSD (for the OS), you usually get migration software to use

i have an SSD for the OS and programs, that is only 50% full, i have a 2TB HDD for storage of other files and crap, this one is full, i have a 4TB i am replacing it with.

great thanks, i had forgotten about paragon, i have used this one before and had no problems, but i will give macrium a try see how that goes in comparison, never used that one yet.

You can use Clonezilla too, https://clonezilla.org

though clonezilla has some limitations - it can't do differential or incremental backups and can't do "online" cloning

I use older versions of macrium reflect free or easeus todo backup free for HDD cloning and doing incremental backups

I have tried both Acronis True Image and Macrium Reflect.  They both work well.

The AchieVer

I have been using macrium reflect for quite some time and would surely suggest that.

I have been using Norton ghost for years, including migrating HDD to SSD.

I recently cloning my HDD with OS Windows 10 to different machine using Acronis True Image and it worked well. Will surely recommend it to all.

long time ago i learned to always include all the other little partitions.  (all that are needed to create a Boot Restore.
