Google has just released an update for Chrome 73, the major update of the browser that was shipped to all supported platforms earlier this month.

Now at version 73.0.3683.86, Google Chrome comes with under-the-hood improvements on WindowsLinux, and macOS, and you can download it using the links here.

As for what’s new in this version, it’s pretty clear that the purpose of the update is to resolve issues in the browser and not to add new features. Google typically introduces new functionality in major updates, like the version 73 mentioned above.

But as per the full changelogpublished by Google here, Chrome version 73.0.3683.86 resolves a number of crashes and bugs hitting browser components. Additionally, it addresses glitches with non-English keyboard shortcuts, while also introducing better handling of large ZIP archives.

“Very large ZIP files were taking an extraordinarily long time to unpack. (Reports estimate 10-15 minutes.) As with other archive formats, we add a maximum inspection size for ZIPs,” the changelog reads.Under-the-hood improvementsNeedless to say, most of the changes happen under the hood and users might not even notice any significant improvement unless they previously encountered one of the bugs fixed in the new version.

It goes without saying that you should update to Chrome 73 if you haven’t already. This version not only that introduces a handful of new features, like dark more for macOS, hardware multimedia controls, and Picture-in-Picture support, but it also resolves a total of 60 security vulnerabilities that could otherwise be exploited by hackers.

Meanwhile, Google Chrome continues to be the number one browser on the market with a share of over 65 percent, according to third-party data from NetMarketShare. Mozilla Firefox is the second browser in the charts with a share of approximately 10 percent, while Microsoft Edge is far behind with around 4 percent.
