Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Cumulative Updates KB4489899, KB4489868, KB4489886

Microsoft has just rolled out a new batch of cumulative updates for Windows 10 as part of the monthly Patch Tuesday cycle.

Microsoft has just rolled out a new batch of cumulative updates for Windows 10 as part of the monthly Patch Tuesday cycle.

All of today’s cumulative updates are first and foremost supposed to fix security vulnerabilities, despite each release also including non-security improvements.

As it happens every month, all Windows 10 versions are getting new cumulative updates, but for home users, only the Fall Creators Update (version 1709) and newer still receive support. The latest version of Windows 10 is the October 2018 Update (version 1809) and it received a new update too.

This month’s cumulative updates are the following:

Windows 10 version 1507 KB4489872 (OS Build 10240.18158)
Windows 10 version 1607 KB4489882 (OS Build 14393.2848)
Windows 10 version 1703 KB4489871 (OS Build 15063.1689)
Windows 10 version 1709 KB4489886 (OS Build 16299.1029)
Windows 10 version 1803 KB4489868 (OS Build 17134.648)
Windows 10 version 1809 KB4489899 (OS Build 17763.379)

What’s new in these updates? Each of these updates brings security updates for Windows 10 and the built-in modules. You can refer to the updates below to find more information on each release.

However, it’s worth highlighting that this month Microsoft targets Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorerbrowsers, the Windows kernel, and the Windows Scripting engine.

The rollout has just started, so at this point, it’s still too early to tell whether these cumulative updates install correctly for every or not. We’re also in the process of installing this month’s updates, so we’ll post more information should something go wrong.

In the meantime, you should create a system restore point just in case you’re afraid that something goes wrong when installing the updates. While many users might choose to delay the patching, you should think twice before doing this, especially because the Patch Tuesday rollout resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft’s products and which could expose your data to attackers should any exploit be discovered.
