Apple Getting Ready to Launch 7th Gen iPod touch with All-Screen Design

Rumors pointing to a new-generation iPod have been swirling around for many months, but as per Apple’s typical approach, not a single hint was offered that the company could be working on such a device.

Rumors pointing to a new-generation iPod have been swirling around for many months, but as per Apple’s typical approach, not a single hint was offered that the company could be working on such a device.

But as it turns out, the 7th Gen iPod touch is closer than we think, and there’s a good chance it’d feature an all-screen design with virtually no bezels, more or less like the iPhone XS.

An icon discovered in iOS 12.2 beta 4 by Jonathan Mitchell shows the possible design of the upcoming iPod, with no home button apparently pictured. Interestingly, the device doesn’t seem to feature a notch either, so there’s a chance that Apple could give up on some features versus the iPhone.

Details about a possible launch date of the new-generation iPod touch aren’t available right now, but Apple will be holding a new event on March 25 at its own headquarters. Many speculate this is the right moment for Apple to announce the new iPod, especially because the company typically uses the September event for the unveiling of new iPhones exclusively.Don’t hold your breath for a new iPodNeedless to say, you’re recommended to take this new leak with a healthy dose of skepticism, especially because there are signs that it could very well be fake.

For example, the iPod touch logo doesn’t seem to be centered, which would be an unexpected design mishap from Apple given how attention the company typically pays to such things.

Furthermore, the lack of modern features, like Face ID and the notch, raises questions regarding Apple’s approach on a new iPod, especially because Cupertino is so keen on bringing the facial recognition system on as many devices as possible.

Expect more leaks to surface in the coming weeks as we approach the possible release date of the device.

What would be the target market for a new iPod? It seems to me that the market for this has already been saturated with iPhone purchases. Who would want a second device that duplicates a subset of functions already provided by their phone?
