It’s Patch Tuesday, so Microsoft has just shipped new cumulative updates for Windows 10, basically releasing security improvements for all versions of its operating system.

As the latest Windows 10 release right now, the October 2018 Update, or version 1809, is getting its own update today, and unsurprisingly, it includes not only the typical Patch Tuesday security fixes, but also a bunch of other improvements.

First and foremost, it’s worth knowing that Windows 10 cumulative update KB4487044 increases the OS build number to 17763.316, and you can check this by typing winver in the Start menu. If the update was successfully installed, this is the version that you should be running.KB4487044 changelogWhile the full changelog is available in the box after the jump, what you need to do is that cumulative update KB4487044 includes security fixes aimed at Windows 10 and various OS components, like Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.

Both browsers are thus being patched this month, and even if you’re not using them, installing the update is recommended because other Windows 10 apps use their engines, which means they are exposed to potential attacks too.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4487044 installed correctly on my home laptop, but as I said before, Patch Tuesday releases have rarely caused any issues on my devices.

As far as known issues are concerned, KB4487044 comes with just one of them that is inherited from the previous update, with Microsoft explaining that Microsoft Edge could fail to load some local websites. No other bugs have been acknowledged in this update.

Check out the full changelog in the box after the jump, and make sure that you have a look at the known issues list to see the problems that cumulative update KB4487044 might cause on your device.
