Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have a Precision T3400 (64-bit win 7 Ultimate OS, 4 gb RAM, Intel Core2 Duo processor). I want to install VMware Workstation on it so that i can run "windows server datacenter 2016".

Help me regarding which VMware Workstation version I should install.

Older processors like  the Core2 Duo aren't supported since v14 - https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workstation-Pro/14/rn/workstation-14-release-notes.html#System

V12.5.9 is the latest version he can use.

Installed and activated vmware 12.5.9 on win 7 64 bit but when trying to create vm machine (server 2016) it says 64 bit guest is not supported by this host and  Intel VT-x error (my machine does not support this feature). So i installed win 7 32 bit on vmware for doing the practical.

Now going to install server 2016 via dual boot.

Because the VT-x setting is typically locked at power on, it is necessary to fully power down the system after changing any VT-x options in the firmware (BIOS/EFI).

A simple reboot is not sufficient! After saving your firmware changes, I recommend (For laptop systems) you may have to remove the battery as well, although such extreme measures are rarely necessary.

my dell workstation T3400 does not have VT-x technology.

Have you tried VirtualBox?

Does it meet your needs?

I pulled my Dell T3400 from the Basement over the weekend, I was able to install this one and it worked out for a limited number of requirements well
