SALINAS, Calif. – Police say a man was captured  licking an intercom's doorbell button on video  at the front of a California home over the weekend.

When police caught up with him Monday evening, Roberto Daniel Arroyo, 33, of Salinas declined to discuss allegations that he'd been overly intimate with the intercom and had stolen extension cords, according to Miguel Cabrera, Salinas Police public information officer.

A camera inside the doorbell of the home in in Salinas caught Arroyo's activity, Cabrera said.

"His behavior's rather odd, licking around the intercom speaker," Cabrera said.

The video shows Arroyo moving in and out of frame several times Saturday between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sometimes he just stays in the doorway and appears to lie down as if sleeping, Cabrera said.

Arroyo also allegedly stole extension cords powering Christmas decorations, Cabrera said.

The video shows him licking the intercom button only once briefly, Cabrera said, contrary to reports that it happened for three hours.

David Dungan, 67, who lives at the home, said he and his wife first saw the video Saturday morning after returning from out of town.

"This guy's getting some sick jollies off of something," he said.

Dungan said his wife and their adult children, who live at the home, also were stunned.

"They were just (saying), 'You've got to be kidding me,'" Dungan said.

The case has been sent to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office, which will decide whether to file charges. Police are seeking misdemeanor prowling, theft and violation of probation charges, Cabrera said.

Dungan said his wife published the video on social media because they wanted to alert the community, especially neighbors who have young children. They also cleaned the porch and bleached the doorknobs, he said.
