Matrix
In context: Razor manufacturers – and ultimately, consumers – over the past several years got caught up in the equivalent of the photography industry’s race of “more is better” (except in this case, it was blades instead of megapixels). While two blades may be better than one and three may trump two, eventually, you’re going to reach the point of diminishing returns. Manufacturers aren’t interested in improving durability as that’d cut into profits (no pun intended), so how else can they continue to innovate? Affordability and subscription models are one way but Gillette is taking a different approach. At its first-ever appearance at CES, the razor maker is peddling a heated razor. Inside is a heating element that can reach up to 122 Fahrenheit. The heat is passed through the cartridge and onto your shave gel / skin; the idea is to mimic the feeling of getting a hot towel shave without the towel or having to constantly run the blade under hot water (although you’ll still probably be doing that to rinse out the cut hair, no?). The downside, as you’ve probably already guessed, is cost. Gillette’s heated razor will reportedly command $160 when it eventually arrives in stores. An Indiegogo campaign from late last year completely sold out, indicating there is a market for this sort of thing. Original Article
hey
Eh eh, it'nice to stop 2,3,4,5 ... 100 blade nuisance.
debebee
yeah.. useless tech since you will need to rinse the blades of stuck hair causing lost heat.. and a hot towel gets the job done at at cheaper price
lurch234
I'm up to the point where I don't even need shaving cream. Much less a heated razor
Mutton
Razors are one of those things driven purely by marketing BS. Heating the blade makes it blunter (expansion) and shortens it's life. MORE profit! The blade should be kept cool. I gave up on expensive, multi-bladed fashion accessories several years ago and started using traditional, double edge safety razors. You know, those old ones with a simple and replaceable razor blade. Those are still made sharp! (Especially Feather brand.) They shave closer than the plastic junk, don't make my face sore (I have stubble you could smooth wood with), and cost much less, even including the fancy badger brushes and soaps. Even cold-water shaves are better. One day I'll try a straight razor... if I can lay of the rum and coffee for long enough to steady my hands

mp68terr
Safety razor and 'old fashion' double edge sharp blades here too! Less and less of these blades in shops though. Bought a 200 blades box years ago for few €...
Alanon
Nice to find fans of wet shaving even on a techie forum! If we disregard single edge or double edge razors, the irony is that Gillette still makes some of the finest disposable cartridge razors on the market. Only no one hears about them. They're called "Gillette Guard" and are intended for the Indian market. That little thing has a single blade on a pivot head that sticks to a hollow plastic handle. Hands down the best plastic razor that ever touched my face. Dirt cheap, too.
nIGHT
I am afraid to go to the barber for shaving because AIDS are starting to rise at a dramatic rate, and most here do not practice to sanitize their blades before using it on another customer. Barbers here use shavettes instead of real straight razors because of that. They have for a long time now. Shavettes look and work like a straight, but take disposable single-use blades. Plus it's much less effort than maintaining and sterilizing a straight. It's not quite like the real thing though.
Jogs
The real tech would be a razor that can clean the hair itself.
