Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4483214 Breaks Down New Windows 10 19H1 Feature

The most recent cumulative update released for Windows 10 19H1 is causing issues for a feature that will be part of the final update due in the spring of 2019.

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 cumulative update KB4483214 for version 19H1 in December, but as it turns out, in addition to a series of improvements, it also comes with a bug breaking down Windows Sandbox.

Also debuting in Windows 10 19H1, Windows Sandbox is a new feature that basically allows users to run applications in a closed environment, technically making it possible to protect data from any impact a malware infection would have on the system.

Windows Sandbox works just like a traditional virtual machine, and is considered to be one of the main additions to the feature lineup of the 19H1 update.

Remove the update to restore Windows Sandbox

But due to cumulative update KB4483214, users can no longer launch Sandbox, and the only way to resolve the bug, for now, is to completely remove the patch.

Several threads on the Microsoft Community forums, including this one, point to a dedicated file that would help remove and hide the cumulative update in Windows 10 19H1 to make sure no impact would be caused and Windows Sandbox would continue to run.

Windows 10 19H1 is projected to launch in the spring of 2019, so issues like these aren’t by any means surprising at this point during the development stage. According to Microsoft’s typical release schedule, Windows 10 19H1 is scheduled to be finalized in March and then released to users beginning with April.

Microsoft is still in the process of pushing Windows 10 October 2018 Update to devices across the world after the rollout resumed in November. The update is up for grabs right now as a manual download from Windows Update, while Windows 10 19H1 is exclusively available for insiders in the Fast ring.
