nir Posted December 14, 2018 Share Posted December 14, 2018 Qualcomm announced earlier this week that it had secured two preliminary injunctions against Apple from a court in China, which ordered the immediate sales ban on certain iPhone models in the country due to patent violations. Now, the Cupertino giant is planning to push software updates beginning next week in order to have that ban order reversed. According to Apple, the software updates are meant to modify "the minor functionality of the two patents" that Qualcomm claims to own but have been allegedly infringed upon by the iPhone maker. The patents involved in this case relate to how apps are managed on a mobile device and how users resize photos. In late 2017, Qualcomm brought that case to a Chinese court, which recently issued the ban order for the sale of a wide range of iPhone models including the iPhone 6s/6s Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, iPhone 8/8 Plus, and iPhone X. However, the order has yet to take effect as Apple's online store for the Chinese market still offers all iPhone models, as noted by Reuters. Apple filed a motion for reconsideration with the Fuzhou Intermediate People’s Court in China. The recent court injunctions against the tech giant are just the latest in Qualcomm's attempt to get the iPhones blocked from being sold to consumers.
