This also uses Gecko, the rendering engine developed by Mozilla, so any older Firefox add-ons you can find, should work out of the box. Some say its interface is old school, but if you put aside a little time for the learning curve, its capabilities are impressive. There is a portable version available and a working version of Adblock Plus (for Firefox) that can be downloaded from the K-Meleon forum. V76 is under active development, using Goanna rather than Gecko, with regular preview releases that to give you an idea, were lasted updated on November 3, with feedback and discussions on the K-Meleon forum. Otherwise, the K-Meleon fork known as K-Ninja ceased development in 2008. CoolNovo was based on Chromium and has been inactive since 2013. Arora has been discontinued and QtWeb is no longer maintained. SlimBrowser used the Trident rendering engine that died with Internet Explorer, so users are now pointed towards Slimjet, again based on Chromium, a base some consider unnecessarily “heavy” for older hardware. Maxthon also supports Trident, a hangover from IE days, as does Polarity. Midori might be a possibility, since it is supposedly cross-platform and has a built-in ad blocker, but I didn’t have much luck getting the latest portable version to run on the Windows 7 x64 laptop, I am using to write this. Now it plays flash video as simple pictures, but nowadays flash videos are very rare. Two other notable browser engines, Trident and Chromium, were then much better. I tried also some little joke browsers, but they weren't really competitive by any means. There are many ways to free up more RAM: Right choice of AV or tweaking off useless Windows services like action center. 360 Browser 7.5 and latest 360 TS without Avira&BD were/are best combo for PC with 0.5 GB RAM. OS level: Stripped XP was lighter for browsing than any Puppy Linux in that time, and billion times more stable. Maybe Puppy had more speed before... Your best bet is just to upgrade your Firefox, although K-Meleon 76.0 has a built-in ad blocker too...
