nir
This update is now available for Windows insiders A new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1809 is just around the corner, as Microsoft has started testing KB4469342 as part of the Windows Insider program today. This update is now available for insiders in the Release Preview ring, though a changelog hasn’t been provided and a KB page isn’t live just yet. And while it’s not known what this update is actually fixing, the file associations issue that we reported about lately is very likely to be targeted. Microsoft originally promised it would resolve this problem in late November. Cumulative update KB4469342 will push the OS build number to 17763.165, and it is expected to be released to production devices sometime next week. A more cautious approach By the looks of things, KB4469342 doesn’t come all alone, but alongside a new Servicing Stack Update (SSU) labeled as KB4470788. As some people have reported on AskWoody, the installation of the update fails at first, but succeeds on the second attempt. This is a behavior that was spotted in the past as well, especially when Microsoft released new SSUs, and is mostly caused by Windows Update not instructing Windows correctly to first install the servicing stack update and only then the cumulative update. Microsoft has re-released Windows 10 version 1809 earlier this week after the company originally pulled it in October due to a major bug possibly leading to user file removal. However, despite the halt, Windows 10 version 1809 is still far from delivering a flawless update experience to users, and bugs are still being reported on upgraded devices. Microsoft promised to improve update quality and shipping cumulative updates to insiders first is one way to do this. It remains to be seen when the public rollout begins, but fingers crossed for more fixes to land as soon as possible. Source
