Office Mobile apps now support Timeline too

Microsoft has updated Office Mobile apps for Windows 10 with support for Timeline, a feature that’s part of the operating system since the April 2018 Update (version 1803).

What this means for Windows 10 users is that Timeline can now save activities in Office Mobile apps too, thus allowing them to return to editing a specific document quite easily.

Basically, the purpose of Windows Timeline is to save activities on Windows 10 devices and then allow you to return to a snapshot at any point within the next 30 days. Timeline can store anything from apps, tabs in the browsers, and documents.

Previously, however, the Microsoft Store version of the Office productivity suite wasn’t supported, but beginning with version 16002.11029.20046.0 this changes.

What this update means for users

The real benefit here, however, is different. Office Mobile apps can also be installed on other Windows 10 devices besides PCs, including tablets and even mobile phones running Windows 10 Mobile.

In other words, you can create documents on a different device and then restore them on a PC using Timeline, all while using the Office Mobile apps and the same Microsoft account.

There’s no doubt this feature would further evolve in the coming weeks and months, and the next step appears to bringing support for Timeline in Office on other platforms too. Naturally, iOS and Android are expected to get support for Office documents in Timeline anytime soon, especially as Microsoft is always working on improving the productivity suite on the two mobile platforms.

For now, Timeline just seems to be a priority for Microsoft in Windows 10, and the feature has already evolved beyond the desktop as a method of bringing PCs and other devices in sync. On Android, for instance, Timeline is integrated into the Microsoft Launcher, basically allowing you to restore activities on a PC and continue from where you left off.
