Version 3.0 now available for download on iOS

Microsoft has released one major update for digital assistant Cortana on iOS devices, as the app has finally reached version 3.0.

With this new update, Cortana gets as major overhaul on iPhone, with Microsoft implementing a conversational experience for answers.

Basically, this makes the interaction with Cortana more natural, as answers are provided in a conversational approach that better simulates the experience you get with a real assistant.

Furthermore, Cortana now brings to iOS options to listen to music and podcasts on the go without touching your iPhone, as well as additional capabilities for the digital assistant, like joining Skype meetings. Starting with this update, you can just ask Cortana to join a specific meeting, and the entire process would be performed automatically.

Cortana 3.0 can also manage meetings, emails, reminders, and To-Do entries, as the digital assistant evolves to conquer the iOS ecosystem.

The Cortana push

Of course, while Cortana is getting smarter on iPhone, it’s still a challenge for Microsoft to convince iOS users not to stick with Siri. The big bet, however, is for Microsoft to provide its own customers with a truly advanced digital assistant, regardless of how good Siri is on the iPhone.

In fact, this has been Microsoft’s mobile vision lately too. Despite no longer having its own mobile operating system, the Redmond-based giant tries to remain competitive in the mobile business with apps and services that are regularly improved on Android and iOS.

This is part of an effort that’s supposed to provide Microsoft customers with access to their apps and services regardless of the platform of choice, so today’s Cortana update plays an important role in this strategy.

You can download the new Cortana update from the App Store here. Like previous versions, only a bunch of languages are supported, so the digital assistant remains available in a limited set of markets.
