New version of the launcher now up for grabs on Android

Microsoft has recently released a new stable version of its Android launcher, and this time the changes are quite significant, especially for Windows 10 users.

After previously in beta for several weeks, version 5.0 comes with Windows 10 Timeline support, which allows users to see the activity from their PCs right on Android smartphones.

Technically, this brings phones and PCs closer together, offering features that would allow Android users to continue from where they left off on another device.

The new release also includes an updated feed that now boasts features like Glance, News, and Timeline, all grouped in their own tabs. Everything is highly customizable, except for the News section, which Microsoft says is in the middle of an overhaul, with categories to be reorganized and displayed in a more straightforward manner in a future update.

The news experience is powered by Microsoft News, which is Microsoft’s updated application that’s available both on mobile and on Windows 10 PCs.

Battery improvements

Cortana is obviously an important part of this update, and Microsoft Launcher 5.0 now makes it possible to send emails with multi-turn emailing. This means the digital assistant can also be used to respond to emails in a row, and not just to send one email.

There are also improvements for parents who want to view their kids’ real-time location right from within the launcher with a dedicated card in the feed.

Microsoft Launcher 5.0 also includes smaller refinements, including battery refinements for issues that were experienced during the beta program. Some preview builds of Microsoft Launcher 5.0 for Android led to a drained battery on some devices, yet Microsoft says the problem has already been fixed.

You can download the latest Microsoft Launcher APK from Softpedia right now to try out all of these improvements yourselves.
