Voksi Retires: Cyberpolice Raid Cracker After Denuvo Criminal Complaint

The rivalry between Voksi and Denuvo appears to be over. Early Tuesday morning, up to six officers including two from Bulgaria's General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime, raided the 21-year-old's home. Voksi informs TorrentFreak they were acting following a criminal complaint filed by Irdeto, the company that bought Denuvo earlier this year.

denuvo.jpgYesterday morning we reported how concern was mounting for infamous games cracker ‘Voksi’ after he uncharacteristically failed to appear online.

Fears only increased when his REVOLT forum began diverting to the Ministry of the Interior in Bulgaria. While some of his fans thought it was some kind of elaborate joke, those closest to him suspected that something had gone terribly wrong.

And it had.

Speaking with TorrentFreak last evening, an obviously emotional Voksi told us that early Tuesday morning he received unexpected visitors to his home in southern Bulgaria.

Five or six officers, including two from Bulgaria’s General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime (GDBOB) and others from a local police station, appeared at his door. They clearly had one thing in mind – his anti-Denuvo activities.

It appears that Denuvo’s new owner, anti-piracy outfit Irdeto, had filed a criminal complaint against Voksi with Bulgarian authorities. How police found him isn’t clear but Voksi told TF that he had at least one piece of loose information out there that would’ve made it easy.

Perhaps surprisingly given the powerful response, Voksi wasn’t arrested at his home. He had equipment seized (his main PC and a server) but even when he attended the local police station to make a statement later in the day, he remained ‘free’.

Clearly concerned about what will happen next, Voksi didn’t want to go into too much detail about his statement. However, we get the impression that he didn’t make it difficult for authorities and was as straightforward as possible with what probably amounts to a confession.

Voksi also wasn’t clear on what the charges against him might be, if there are any. He knows that the police spoke about the damage he had done to Denuvo but beyond that, details in respect of specific laws aren’t readily available.

Voksi also told us that during Tuesday he took the opportunity to contact Denuvo with some kind of offer to bring the whole situation to a peaceful conclusion.

The Bulgarian didn’t want to go into details on how the discussion went or what was said but he suggested that Denuvo felt the final decision might not be entirely theirs, considering the local prosecutor is now in charge of the case.

What happens to Voksi in the immediate future isn’t known but it’s clear that he won’t be continuing with his cracking work. For his REVOLT forum, the game is also over. Voksi informs TF that the authorities have already seized the domain so the site won’t be coming back.

Finally, Voksi has had zero representation so far. We double checked – no lawyer was provided to him before, during, or after questioning. He’ll be needing someone to help out in southern Bulgaria, close to the city of Plovdiv.

“If you are a lawyer or someone who wants to fight, or just someone who wants to express his feelings, you can contact me currently over the RVT Discord or personally on Discord – Voksi#3486,” he concludes.

Sites like reddit witch is a social media site dont help matters when it comes to things  like  this , everything they say is being archived by anti piracy and they are trying get new laws past to ruin it for everyone,  peoples own stupidity is going to end up driving it all underground  ..You already starting to  see some devs using telegram instead of web sites to post there links because sites like reddit got other devs  drove out of  business of making apps to pirate due to dmca . Things is not going get better it's just going worse as time goes by. Reddit is just part of the problem Facebook , Twitter and all open sites are honey holes for anti piracy  watch dogs .

Honestly I felt that even Voksi provided a service to even those that had paid for the games themselves and wanted a leaner bug free experience.
The best way to kill Denuvo and any sort of similar scheme is to boycott publishers and send a warning to devs with your wallet that this sort of behaviour is unacceptable.

Being a public figure in all of this was and is not wise at all.

Also I want to take this moment to address this bullshit story that vested parties are running that there is some sort of smear campaign going on with ratings on games simply because of denuvo as if they are innocent and people are just being unfair. The truth is the low scores are a reflection of the bloat, bugs, poor performance and excessive resource usage. Voksi has exposed them a number of times and more recently with the release of Sonic Mania Plus.
Whilst I love that game and what it stands for I cannot condone the use of such systems on the PC version especially in such a poor way.
Denuvo is garbage! Gamers want to squeeze out every ounce of power out of their system and have the games they purchase run optimally and not have some garbage run in the background chewing up resources for no reason beyond greed.
This kind of treatment upon consumers is unfit for consumption, publishers and developers need to be made aware of this.

I hope Voksi doesn't suffer any legal ramifications and does not have to surrender his soul to them in order to get off the hook.

Valve have a clever little racket going on, don't worry about them. There are many customers buying games and never having played or downloaded them so they are making a tidy profit.
PC gaming has gone to hell many years ago and are just backported console trash.
I remember the days when gaming was brimming with talent and communities were developing mods to games that were free and wonderful. I also remember a time when one could run their own game server and host it whilst also selecting their server to play. I remember using applications like the All Seeing Eye to find and play on a broader range of servers.
The next step is stream games which is even worse and probably the end of gaming as we know it in many aspects.

I remember  when it 1st  started out  I owned a Atari 2600  even though it was shit compared to the games we played at the arcade it was all we had it sold over  over thirty million units .  I put all the money i got a hold of in Galaga in the early 1980s  that was my favorite  game of all time  it was from Japan but was made by Midway in the USA. Big difference now were people can pirate  games than it was then when everybody use to just feed the game industry money  24/7 than it is today . Gaming is addictive i know people who is old as i am and all they do is play video games on PS4 but that's not me . I own a PS4  and play sometimes but it's not my life like is a lot of guys i know. I rather watch a movie ,tv show  or read .

Thrandisher

Yup, i got my first computer in the late 70's myself. My dad was a DJ at a radio station and all the dj's there went out and bought a trs-80.  I remember going to BBS party's and copying floppy disks at the party's to get the newest games. Haveing to switch from one copy program to another one to copy the game, depending on the copy protection, LOL.  Oddly enough i used to log into a BBS ran by some of the local cops and d/l'ing games there because they has the best "warez" section in town. Times have certainly changed since then.

On topic tho, im really sad voksi got busted. With as much as he has done lately, i knew it was a matter of time before they got him. He's a nice guy to talk to.

As for arcade games, the amount i have spent on "gauntlet" was pretty obscene. Elf shot the food!   A game i really liked was, Thayer's Quest.  I never did do the last episodes since no place around here (that i knew of) had them. And

while i know i could do it now, id have to look up spoilers probably because i dont remember all the scenes like i used to back then.
