Japanese company creates drone-powered umbrella for handsfree shade

If you’re sick of holding an umbrella with your hands like a sucker, a high-tech solution is coming your way.

In important umbrella-related-technology news, it’s come out that a bunch of big-brained folk from Asahi Power Service in Japan have created a prototype of a hovering parasol.

It’s called the Free Parasol and it could potentially change your life (key word: could).

The revelation comes, as does most need-to-know Japanese updates, from Sora News 24.

As we learned from an article by editorial duo Master Blaster (Canadian Steven Le Blanc and  Masami M from Japan), the smart parasol is fitted with artificial intelligence that detects and tracks the top of a person’s head.

With its target locked, the high-tech brolly can hover over the person and protect them from the sun’s harmful rays wherever they go.

The ingenious, totally necessary device was demonstrated in a video posted to YouTube by Nikkan Kogyo Video News late last week.

In its current form, the Free Parasol weighs 5kg and can hover for 20 minutes on a fully-charged battery.

Importantly, the brolly isn’t watertight – so it’s more of a shade-based device than an actual umbrella.

But the goal is to cut the weight down to 1kg and push the flight time to one hour.

And, of course, the team want to create a waterproof version to hover over people during rainstorms.

Love this story :D knowing how congested it is in Japan you can only picture what it could be like on a rainy day in Tokyo :D

Sounds really nice but it is only good for 20 minutes.; you cannot walk the streets with it.  I believe someone already invented an umbrella hat, which will also be hands free and cost less.
