LinkedIn has a new feature

LinkedIn is trying to be a bit more like all other social networks and has announced it is debuting its own aggregation service, named "Trending Storylines."

Hopefully, however, LinkedIn won't face the same "fake news" problem most other networks are fighting with right now, mostly because this will be curated.

The new feature aims to help members find more diverse news sources while breaking out of their daily routines.

In short, Trending Storylines is a curated news feed highlighting the day's trending stories, while also personalizing what news you get based on what LinkedIn knows about you. The algorithm takes into account several details, including your identity, network, and behavior patterns. It also includes multiple perspectives, ranging from relevant Influencers to news publishers, to people in your network; all so diverse opinions can be accessed quickly.

"Storylines are daily curated interest-based feeds about the most important developing stories in your industry. They help you discover and discuss news, ideas and diverse perspectives from the largest group of professionals, publishers and editorial voices ever assembled," reads LinkedIn's announcement.

Each story will be assigned a unique hashtag so it can be easy for users to join in conversations and to add their own take on the issue.

A long journey to overhaul LinkedIn

The company explains that in the past year it has completely rebuilt the LinkedIn Feed experience by redesigning it from scratch so users could fully control their feed experience and stay informed.

LinkedIn has more plans for the future. The company said it will allow users to start following people and topics in the future, which should help them discover even more content. "If you’re interested in machine learning, you will be able to follow this topic and discover new ideas, stories and timely developments in this field,” LinkedIn explained.

A few years ago, LinkedIn was amazing to find colleagues, jobs, companies, etc. Today, however, it's on the same level as Facebook and Twitter. Yea, it's there for a good laugh, but beyond that, no one gives a crap about it.
