KB3197954 Likely to Be the Next Public Windows 10 Cumulative Update

The update is currently being tested on insider systems

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 cumulative update KB3197954 to some insider PCs one week ago and now it seems like the Slow and Release Preview rings are getting it too on desktop computers – the original release reportedly targeted mobile devices exclusively.

While it’s not yet clear if this update brings anything besides small improvements and fixes here and there, it looks like it pushes Windows 10 version to 14393.351 and it is very likely to be the next public release that everyone will get in the coming days.

This is actually an approach that makes sense for Microsoft given the past history with Windows 10 cumulative updates, as many of them failed to install and only created more problems on some PCs. By shipping them to insiders first, Microsoft is trying to detect and fix bugs before cumulative updates reach systems of end users, so it could all prove to be a very effective idea.

There is no date as to when the new cumulative update could go live for all Windows 10 users, but in the meantime, let’s just hope that everything goes well for insiders and smooth performance will be delivered to retail users as well.

The next Patch Tuesday takes place on November 8, but there’s a small chance that Microsoft could ship this cumulative update to Windows 10 systems before that.

Umm... unless I've missed something here, shipping updates to Insiders first for testing and bug reporting is nothing new, all previous cumulative updates have been similarly deployed and major bugs have still slipped through.

What's that definition of a fool? Repeating the same action over and over and expecting a different result. :)
