Batu69
Seagate announces 2TB SSHD and 5TB HDD in 2.5″ form-factor Seagate has announced a 2.5″ Solid State Hybrid Disk (SSHD) with a capacity of 2TB and a 8GB NAND cache. The company will also release a 5TB HDD in the same form-factor. The SSHD is part of Seagate’s FireCuda series, the HDD part of the BarraCuda series. The FireCuda SSHD fits in laptops with its 7mm height, the 5TB HDD isn’t suitable for laptops with its height of 15mm. Both products are based on Seagate’s 2.5″ 1TB platters which the company introduced in January. Seagate claims that the SSHD boots Windows 7 up to 25% faster than compared to a regular 7,200 RPM HDD. Application startup time should be even 300% faster. The speed increase is possible thanks to the 8GB NAND flash memory cache. The cache is managed by an algorithm that stores the most frequently used files in the NAND flash memory. The 5TB is relative slow, it spins at 5,400 RPM and has a specified maximum write speed of 140MB/s. Seagate hasn’t announced any pricing information, and also hasn’t disclosed when the new drives will become available. Article source
JimmySvert
Even 4TB 2.5" HDDs with a decent price tag would be good for cold storage.
