uBlock Origin and uMatrix is definitely one of the best adblockers. it blocks stuff BEFORE they get onto your hard drive.

browser of choice chrome cause it's simple, fast and convenient. Firefox is also a respectable choice. AVOID IE like the plague!

however for 100% confidence, a sandbox that auto clears after every session sill be more likely to avoid anything dodgy sticking onto your system unawares. for most people this sandbox tends to be tedious since you got to remember to permanently save stuff you actually want to commit rather than being wiped.

Anyway i also use nod32 and the wfc as well. But in addition i use mbam, mbae, hitman pro, zemana anti keylogger, windows 10, shutup10 (to cut down on excessive win10 analytics).

for router i like rt merlin because he usually patches security updates quite frequently. Asus routers also come with trendmicro added protection modules which adds some added value. an alternatively good router is a custom built Pfsense router which also has lots of security configurability built in.

for backup use 2 NAS (alternatively there is NAS to the cloud backup service). Best way to protect against ransomware in addition to all this is also periodic backup to your NAS. Encrypt your backups especially if their offsite like on a cloud.

lastly passwords i recommend keepass it's free. if you use online password cloud managers you'll only get screwed eventually.

In order to block analytics and telemetry, I just use hardened rules on my firewall — works on every OS right up to Windows 10.

Novak Gregor

ESET Smart Security here.

For Opera & GC I use AdBlock, Ghostery, WOT & LassPass adds.

All together with a common sense & I'm malware free for years now.

Enjoy!

My setup is:

  • ESET Internet Security with Incoming Connections denied.
  • Comodo Firewall with HIPS and Firewall running in Custom Rules and all Incoming Connections denied.
  • Windows 10 Pro with Shutup10 and encrypted with Veracrypt
  • Chrome Ext: AdBlock Pro, Ghostery, Canvas Defender
  • 1Password 4 (No cloud version)

Manual backups on 2 external drives encrypted with VeraCrypt too.

Do you have any suggestion? I was thinking about install also Voodooshield and Zemana Antilogger.

Let me know.

Nope, they are running together and I need to authorize all connections on both of them.

-Isn't it a bit overlap to run two (2) firewalls?

Comodo Firewall with HIPS has been the most robust Firewall.

You do Not need the ESET Internet Security Firewall

since you have used Comodo Firewall with HIPS.  ;)

Canvas Defender send your data to Mark Monitor, I will avoid using it, in past I demonstred it.

I didn't know that, thank you

I use it especially to deny Windows 10 Telemetry. Sometimes only one firewall detects a connection so in this way I have full control on my network traffic.

Having tried both Norton and Kaspersky at my old XP, I ended up with free Avira and saw no deterioration in protection. Consequently, I consider it unnecessary to pay for antivirus.

I was similarly using the much esteemed Malwarebytes that kept declaring innocent sites as potentially malicious and blocking them. So I disabled it and nothing happened to me.

I further consider the Windows 10 firewall a good one, doing its job without bothering me with irritating cryptic messages and questions.

In fact, I am informed that hackers nowadays find it difficult to hack W10 and are turning to MACs.

So I contend that nowadays, one doesn't really need to pay for (or pirate) premium products, or a multiplicity of tools that drain resources. And no product can replace common surfing sense.
