7-Zip 15.12

7-Zip is an open-source file archiver, that offers the highest compression ratio, using the new 7z format, which delivers compression results that are usually 30-50% better than standard ZIP. We tested it with a server log file, which compressed with ZIP had a file size of 18 mb and using 7-Zip was reduced to 8 Mb (results may vary, depending on file type). 7Zip supports 7z, ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM and DEB formats, so it can be used with all popular archive files. The program offers a basic file explorer interface and also integrates into the Windows right-click menu. It can be associated with any of the supported formats and also offers command/line support.

Thanks to Siddharta for the update.

There are some changes after 7-Zip 15.11 beta:
- Some problem with columns was fixed in 7-Zip File Manager.
- "There are no errors" string after "Test" operation inside archive.
- The bugs in LZMA SDK were fixed (but these bugs are not related directly to 7-Zip's code).

More infos about this major update:

Support for unpacking many more containers: UEFI BIOS files, WIM files, RAR5 archives, ext2/ ext3/ ext4 images, GPT, VMDK, and single file QCOW2 and VDI images.

The release also has wider support for existing formats, for example correctly handling files larger than 4GB in ISOs, and opening more "unusual" 7z files created by third-party apps.

A host of performance improvements mean 7-Zip is faster at opening 7z files, large archives and big disk folders.

New command line switches include "h" to calculate hash values and "rn" to rename files in an archive.

NTFS support has been extended. 7-Zip’s File Manager can now operate directly with alternate data streams, for example, and WIM/ TAR archives can store alternate data streams, symbolic and hard links and file security information.

7-Zip Portable 15.12 x86/x64 ML PortableAppS format. Features:
1. Replaced the icons and toolbar buttons to skin Flattr: http://s1.bild.me/bilder/030315/3834384_0.png
2. 7-Zip is compiled from source, to enable unpacking NSIS-script of the NSIS-executables: http://sourceforge.net/p/sevenzip/bugs/1544/
3. From 7zFM.exe removed dialogues settings file associations and explorer integration (always did for 7-Zip Portable, just earlier removed them in ResHacker, but now, since I had to build from source, removed all the code associated with that).
