straycat19 Posted January 21, 2017 Share Posted January 21, 2017 I have been experimenting, as time allows, on doing a clean install of Windows (7, 8.1, and 10 Ent LTSB) and not allowing anything to have internet access via a firewall unless explicitly allowed. It takes time to track things down and monitor connections, but in the end I believe I will be able to block the vast majority of connections that serve no useful purpose to the user, not only telemetry, but just plain useless connections. The first thing I discovered was do not use any Microsoft browser and do not use Google or Comodo DNS servers. The ISP provided DNS servers are much less intrusive and even then some ports can be blocked. I decided on trying this approach because I can't trust third party developers to catch everything as has been proven in the plethora of so-called Windows privacy releases over the last 12 months.
