From Satrax's reply, I'm gathering that the definitions file is not dependent on the version of Spy Sweeper you're using. Rather, it appears that the language and location files are only to find a server best suited for you.

Obviously this is an assumption gathered from one case, and this information shouldn't be considered conclusive.

However, the updates did work for Satrax and he is using the Italian version as well so I really don't know what to make of it.

nsane, I am in your debt my friend, this finally looks like a long lasting fix for this bugger. Works like a charm

Anyone having problems actually downloading the mst when you paste your link in your browser, you an just use flashget and it'll download it no probs.

With a regular subscription there were almost daily updates, but all I can get for a few days now is v 574. Is anyone getting higher definitions - I'm not sure this download is still working.

Warning !!!

I noticed that the file downloaded by this way differs slightly from the one downloaded by the 'normal' way (i.e. directly from a registered version)

Sizes are not identical and a dump of files reveals many differences !!!!

Isn't it a protection scheme of some kind of spyware by Webroot ?

Guest novaform

Greetings everyone.

This is becoming tedious. Interesting point about the definitons files being different. I don't know myself, but in the meantime...

v.576 definitions

115,165 fingerprints

http://rapidshare.de/files/8426583/Masters.mst.html

1. scroll down and click the free button to start the download.

2. Wait for countdown to go to 0.

3. scroll down and click link to download

sorry for a new link but i cant get bebo roni's so i figured other people would

have the same problem

cut and paste the masters.mst file into the masters folder of whatever

directory you installed spy sweeper. click yes and replace it.

Turn off auto-update defintions.

Hello everyone,

According to my previous post i uploaded an archive on

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T7XFZOY7

This archive contains 2 definitions #576 files

- the one obtained with the method exposed here

- and the other obtained directly (yesterday) from a registered version

As you can see there's a lot of differences

Hope this will be helpful

they're probably just encoded, like, you could prolly get the same results with trial url by changing a few of the random numbers

Guest jdzworld

some of you are a little too worried. i d/l the update through the method mentioned in the original post and its working the same as what it always has. good s/w!

it uses the the old 3.0 url, like the dvt updater, which we've already determined is a few versions behind the 4.0 URL

@djv - how about making one that uses the new url?

Some observations:

New definitions filesizes seem to be a bit bigger than the previous one, but the 577 is smaller than 576.

If I enter 576 as the last number in the download URL the file size is much smaller (9.58kb) than if I enter 575 or less (1.47 Mb) in the download URL. This suggests an incremental process if the downloader gets the information about a previous version.
