Windows 7 testing

Hi everybody.

Two days ago i picked up some nasty virus which forced me to reinstall my os (yeah i know, pr0n is bad for you :sneaky: ).

I was going to give windows 7 a try anyway, so i decided to create 3 new partitions for xp pro, ubuntu and windows 7.

Now here's something funny;

i am on a laptop with xp oem preinstalled, which backuppartition i deleted previous installation, so i installed windows xp pro full first.

First of all, i couldnt get it to work, some ahole at hp compaq decided they should protect me from doing such.

I had to make changes in my bios, do some erm work before i could even begin to install xp.

After installation, i had no internet since my network card wasnt working without the proper drivers.

Which i could not download because i had no internet. :P

Now i thought, forget about, i'll just fix that later, let's install other os-es first.

So i installed windows 7. Wow. It ran right out of the box, i even did some easy partition management with it.

After it was done installing (which took 10 minutes less than xp) everything just worked.

No drivers needed, got internet right away, sound was working, screensize was ok, everything is just ok.

Instead of giving it just a try, i am gonna stick to it for now.

All i need at home is internet and pkr, which runs fine, so.

Since it is still a beta, i know i might run in to trouble. :beta:

But so far, so good.

I am curious on what your experiences are, just let me know!

Cheers.

Thanks, i will. So far, no problems here.

Everything is running smoothly, folder browsing is a lot faster, and i like the gui.

I use it & I like it :beta:

Together with Kaspersky AV 8.0.0.1057 (WKS). --Beta--

There are a few Windows 7 forums & Vishal has some tips too :P

It's fast, looks like a Polished Vista,

Many people have problems with Drivers ( Video/Chipset etc.)

But that will be solved in time

:sneaky:

Hmmm, should I crash my present OS (XP Pro)??? :fight:

Or wait for a few more months when 7 is out of beta??? ;)

Choices, choices.... :footinmouth:

I've been running windows 7 beta 1 sinse before the public release. And am having no issues, drivers uptodate thanks to windows update. There are some fixes and tweaks out already....thanks to Orbit30.

Ya I'm having a real nice experiense with it. Boots fast, explorer is faster much better than vista and believe it or not less buggy than vista or xp. Well there's my 2 cents worth.

Running it on my MSI Wind netbook (2gb ram). Runs better then Vista, tad slower then XP but worth it in usablilty.

That's funny, mine (2gb ram as well) runs a bit faster then XP, especially shutdown & startup speeds :footinmouth: are better.

It uses about 50% available memory but i quess that has to do with prefetching and stuff like that.

Hybernation mode soups up 1 gb of swap diskspace but that can be turned off.

I had Windows 7 Installed on a Dual Boot setup. Have to agree with you about the easy installment of it. It was up an running just like that.

As a happy Vista user I ain't ready to do the jump just yet though. Will use it for testing...
