nsane.forums
Android chief Andy Rubin has announced that over a two day period, Google activated nearly 3.7 million new Android devices, nearly 3 times the daily average.According to a tweet by Google Android chief Andy Rubin, over the two day period of the Christmas holiday, there were 3.7 million Android devices activated.Last week, Rubin announced that Google was activating over 700,000 devices on a daily basis, so the number during this period represents a nearly 3x increase over the average day. As Rubin explained last week, Google considers an activation to be going into a store and purchasing a new device, not repurposing an old phone or doing a firmware upgrade of the same device.According to the mobile anayltics firm Flurry, on Christmas Day, activations on both Android and iOS platforms jumped to more than 6.8 million. On Christmas 2010, Flurry estimated there were only 2.8 million device activations between the two market leaders, meaning Christmas 2011 grew the two platforms by more than 140% compared to last year. Likewise, both app stores saw nearly double the traffic, with nearly 1 billion new app downloads expected to take place on the week between Christmas and New Years Day.
