Here is some good news for those of you with older video cards who would love to give Bioshock a whirl: someone made a Shader Model 2 hack for the game. Beta Two of the fix was released today.

For some gamers out there with a decent processor, tied with an older SM3-incapable card such as a X800, this fix is a God-send. However, for those of you with older gaming hardware, I would not get my hopes up too high for this fix -- while the game will run with this fix, your framerates will probably be quite low.

Now, we see how this could become a problem for some. Bioshock will retire most graphics cards, as we have found that even when using low quality visual settings at quite low resolutions, even newer graphics cards such as the GeForce 8600 GTS and Radeon HD 2600XT really struggle to keep up in this game.
