As previously rumored, Nvidia officially confirmed that G80 will be fully compatible with Microsoft's highly anticipated DirectX 10 API and it also supports shader model 4. Obiously, G80 is the 8th generation GPU in the GeForce family.

Codename G80 GPUs will officially equip GeForce 8800 family video cards. Nvidia's new flagship will be the GeForce 8800GTX. The previous series (7XXX) came in GTX and GT flavors, but now, Nvidia decided to eliminate the GT version in favor of a GTS suffixed one. The GTS suffix hasn't been used ever since the GeForce 2 era.

Dailytech officially reports that Nvidia's GeForce 8800GTX will be factory clocked at 575 Mhz, will incorporate 768 MB GDDR3 memory clocked at 900 Mhz and there will be a 384-bit memory interface. This was all rumored around for some time now. Now, Nvidia officially announces that the memory interface will be able to deliver 86 GB.second of memory bandwidth and 8800GTX is equipped with 128 unified shaders clocked at 1350 Mhz. This should result in a theoretical texture fill-rate of around 38.4 billion pixels/second.

8800GTS is a slightly cut-down 8800GTX, featuring a 500 Mhz core clock, 640 MB of GDDR3 graphics memory clocked at 900 Mhz and the memory interface is reduced to 320-bit, resulting into a 64 GB/s memory bandwidth. The 8800 will also include just 96 unified shaders clocked at 1200 Mhz.

All 8800 family products are HDCP compliant and support dual dual-link DVI, VIVO and HDTV interfaces. The cards will also feature dual-slot coolers and should be out in the second week of November 2006.

Nvidia claims that 8800GTX needs at least a 450W power supply, while 8800GTS would work with a 400W one. Taiwan vendors confirmed that the 8800 SLI combos will need a power supply of at least 800W. Prices will be announced soon.
