if you just tweak it a little bit and its sufficient for most users unless you visit shady sites.

Some of the free softwares' are sketchy, unless I know where they are receiving money :D If I have no idea how are they surviving, then I will NOT try them.

Some of the free softwares' are sketchy, unless I know where they are receiving money  If I have no idea how are they surviving, then I will NOT try them.  Yet I've used plenty of those who are open about what are they doing and where they are receiving stuff.  Also there is a  free dns tool, works like a vpn but not completely? I'm not really sure how it works as im a bit behind. I'll add a link to it, anyone can try it themselves. This list need some corrections and additions (will put in red) 

 

On Demand Malware Scanners (These should be used in conjunction with some of the other tools)

a² Free  = Emsisoft Emergency Kit, A²-named products are now called Emsisoft)

 

Anti-Spyware:

Windows Defender (antispyware only on Win7)

 

Firewalls:

Online Armor (Abandoned)

 

HIPS:

GesWall (Abandoned)

Malware Defender (abandoned)

PrevX (now known a Webroot , full-fledge AV)

Sandboxie (not an HIPS but a sandbox, and now open source)

ThreatFire (Abandoned, PC tool bought by Norton/Symantec)

 

 

Encryption:

Truecrypt (unsafe, replaced by Veracrypt)

 

Safe Browsing:

PrevX SafeOnline (Prevx is now Webroot)
