Microsoft has released an out-of-band update for Windows 10 1903 that fixes a bug that could cause USB Audio 2.0 microphones to stop working.

This update came out of nowhere as there have not been a lot of complaints that I have seen regarding USB microphones having problems with Windows 10, but Microsoft yesterday released an update that fixes this issue.

According to the support bulletin, this update will fix an issue where Voice Recorder and other apps will be unable to use USB Audio 2.0 multi-channel microphones.

"Addresses an issue in which some customers may be unable to use USB Audio 2.0 multi-channel microphones in Voice Recorder and similar apps."

For users whose microphones are affected by this issue, Microsoft will automatically offer the update via Windows Update.

"If your device is found to be affected by this issue, this update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update."

For users of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) the update will be available if you configure "Products and Classifications" to support "Windows 10, version 1903 and later".

This update is not available in the Microsoft Catalog and thus cannot be downloaded manually.
