The AchieVer Posted December 13, 2018 Share Posted December 13, 2018 Just when we thought everything was working flawlessly with this month’s cumulative update for Windows 10, here is a bunch of reports suggesting that the version 1809 update may be causing sound issues on a number of devices. I’m now seeing several users complaining of audio problems after installing Windows 10 version 1809 cumulative update KB4471332, including in this thread on reddit. As it turns out, both Intel and Realtek drivers are affected by this bug, and multiple users confirmed in the linked discussion that they’re also seeing broken audio after installing the cumulative update. While at first glance it looks like the issue has different behaviors depending on the machine configuration, the thread starter explains that audio devices were removed after the system restarted to complete the installation of the cumulative update. When Windows signed in to the desktop, no audio devices were detected on the system and despite trying to perform a hardware scan to reinstall them, no audio hardware was detected.Sound issues in Windows 10At this point, it’s not known how many users are impacted by this glitch, but a Microsoft engineer has already joined the discussion and requested more information on how the bug breaks down audio. The official KB page of cumulative update KB4471332 doesn’t list any known issue, though it could take a while until Microsoft officially acknowledges the bug. Audio glitches in Windows 10 aren’t something new, and the most recent cumulative updates themselves are known for causing such problems. Furthermore, I’ve seen users complaining that after the update to Windows 10 version 1809 the sound experience on the OS suffers from various bugs, including speakers crackling due to what are likely to be driver issues.
