Blender finally lands in the Microsoft Store on Windows 10

Super-popular open-source 3D creation suite Blender is now available for download on Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store.

The application, which is already highly successful on pretty much every platform where it’s available, requires Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and newer and comes packed in a 319.2 MB archive that anyone can get for free from the Microsoft Store.

If you’ve never heard of Blender, it’s a 3D creation program that supports a wide array of features like modeling, sculpting, rigging, 3D and 2D animations, simulations, rendering, motion tracking, and video editing, as mentioned in the Store.

Windows 10 in S Mode

While for Windows 10 users this isn’t necessarily a big release, since a Win32 version of Blender already existed, the news here is that the app thus becomes available for those running Windows 10 in S Mode too.

And judging from Microsoft’s push in this regard, the number of Windows 10 S Mode users is projected to grow substantially, especially as the company insists for its partners to launch such devices.

Windows 10 in S Mode is restricted to apps in the Microsoft Store and the installation of Win32 programs is blocked. Microsoft says this is the most secure version of Windows 10 yet, as all apps that are available for download are verified and malware can’t reach users’ devices.

Also installed on the Surface Go, which is Microsoft’s cheapest Surface model aimed at students, Windows 10 with S Mode seems to align well with the software giant’s push for content creators. And without a doubt, so does Blender, which puts the focus on 3D content.

At the same time, the arrival of Blender in the Microsoft Store helps Windows 10 grow bigger, giving Microsoft another reason to insist for more and more developers to bring their apps to the Store.
