MPEG Layer-3 Codec (Professional) version 3.4.0

Hello,

I'm looking for MPEG Layer-3 Codec (Professional) version 3.4.0  or more (see image bellow)

In fact, I'm using VirtualDub with a standard MPEG Layer-3 (decode only) version 1.9 and it doesn't decode all MPEG.

Regards

Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder

http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=a618ccb646c121ec90ef2b89d7391141&s=19&r=&f=mpeg_layer_3_codec.htm

MP3 is different from MPEG-2

The workaround is to preload the MPEG-2 with a frontend script in Avisynth

(ffvideo source, for example -- never directshowsource), or by simply using one of the custom versions of VirtualDub: VirtualDubMod or VirtualDubMPEG.

LAME 3.99.5 ACM codec

it's 32-bit Lame ACM codec and it work with 32-bit version of VirtualDub, on 32-bit or 64-bit Windows

lameacm.png

if command line is not preferred for installing it you can use something like this for installing

(on 32-bit windows right-click on LameACM.inf and choose Install)
save it as *.bat in same folder with lame acm and run
lame acm folder can be anywhere

uninstall it from any uninstall manager

@echo off
::================================================================================================
:: Run Script as Administrator

>nul 2>&1 "%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\cacls.exe" "%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\config\system"
if '%errorlevel%' NEQ '0' (
    echo Requesting administrative privileges...
    goto UACPrompt
) else ( goto gotAdmin )
:UACPrompt
    echo Set UAC = CreateObject^("Shell.Application"^) > "%temp%\getadmin.vbs"
    set params = %*:"=""
    echo UAC.ShellExecute "cmd.exe", "/c %~s0 %params%", "", "runas", 1 >> "%temp%\getadmin.vbs"
    "%temp%\getadmin.vbs"
    del "%temp%\getadmin.vbs"
    exit /B
:gotAdmin
    pushd "%CD%"
    CD /D "%~dp0"

::================================================================================================

IF NOT EXIST "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files (x86)" goto 32bit
IF EXIST "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files (x86)" goto 64bit

:32bit
cd rundll32 setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 %~dp0LameACM.inf
goto end

:64bit
cd %windir%\SysWOW64 && rundll32 setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 %~dp0LameACM.inf

:end
exit

if you have any problems with decoding or encoding, instead you use codecs which belongs to museum use at least some additinal plugins which will improve functionality of VirtualDub.

or use some newer enhanced forks, for example this one:

http://virtualdub2.com

https://sourceforge.net/projects/vdfiltermod/

TNX all. Unfortunately,  it doesn't help yet

@xanax; I'm using VirtualDub2 with Lame filter installed for x86 and x64 (see here bellow image).

@teodz: I'm afraid yr MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder is too old (1995).

In fact, the image bellow show my VirtualDub installation ( MPEG Layer-3 Codec (Professional) version 3.4.0  included) on my Desktop. I copied that VirtualDub folder to my Laptop and can't have the MPEG Layer-3 Codec (Professional) version 3.4.0.

Fraunhofer 'Radium hacked' MP3 Pro codec is one of the best codecs released by Fraunhofer, in spite of the long period of time it has not been updated anymore.This codec is not offered anymore due to licensing issues and it is replaced, most of the time with the LAME ACM Codec + LAME MP3 Encoder, the best codec-encoder combination.
LAME offers both superior speed and quality.

Try Install KLITE CODEC PACK MEGA and select the Advanced Playback and Encoding Profile...

That will put what you want on VDUB.

Hi teodz,

I installed yr yr MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder is and got the MPEG Layer-3 Codec (Professional) version 3.4.0 ;) but it available only for VirtualDub x86 while I'm using VirtualDub x64.

Is anyhow to enable it for VirtualDub x64 ? or Have you it for x64?

  • https://windowsreport.com/media-feature-pack-n-edition-anniversary-update/
  •
  • Windows 10 N and Windows 10 KN editions include the same functionality as Windows 10, except that these versions of Windows do not include Windows Media Player, and related technologies.

    End-user customers can enable the media functionality to work properly by installing the Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10 (KB3010081).

    This feature pack can be applied to computers running either Windows 10 N or Windows 10 KN editions.

What kind of file do you want to process actually? So you are looking for working decoder, not encoder? If it supports FFmpeg, you should have no problem.

I think, I know some ways to help you ;)

The easy way:

You can already use VDub and save RAW audio (or processed as WAV), since you already have a working setup.

Try "File -> Save WAV" or "File -> Export -> Raw Audio"

The hard way:

1. Demux the file to separate video from audio (VDub offers good methods or use eg. ffmpeg's own demuxer)

2. Use one of the many GUI or command line tools (eac3to, lame, ...) to convert the audio to a valid WAV file

3. Encode the WAV to a valid MP3/AAC/AC3 or whatever format

4. Mux video and audio to your preferred container (MKV, AVI, ...)

This is my preferred method to handle stubborn files :)

But wait, there is a much harder way:

Since you already have the CoDec installed on your Desktop PC, you only need to locate the CoDec, copy the files to the Laptop and re-install them. Usually you should look for something like "l3codec*.acm". l3codeca.acm or l3codecx.acm (decoder only) or l3codecp.acm (Professional).

With some registry entries and/or INF-magic, it should be possible to create a very own "installer"-batchfile to install and assign the copied Desktop version of the CoDecs. I don't have the time for some dummy-files testing in a VM, but here are two sites which deals with re-installing the CoDec and it's reg-entries...

http://www.looprecorder.de/tut_l3codec.php

http://www.komeil.com/blog/enable-fraunhofer-mp3-l3codecp-acm-windows

As I said before. The easier and more compatible way is to demux the files and use other (more recent) decoders to get a WAV which can be encoded to a nice mp3 via LAME ;)

@tedodz: I have a closer look at yr 2 links for Media Feature Pack links for Windows 10 N and KN. It install a Media Player and several media codecs such as MPEG, AAC, H.264 and H.265 that ship with the operating system are not included in N and KN versions of Windows 10. Since I'm using Win10 Pro,  I guess I do not need this install. TNX anyway ;)

@rach: I'm looking for the encoder .

Finally I got it working :D

I could find and export on my desktop (Win7) all i3codecp.acm and i3codeca.acm registry with Registry Workshop and compare with the registry of my laptop (win10) , they were some registry missed on my laptop.

That's All Falk ;)

TNX to all of you :wub:
