Recruit
For years, Swype Keyboard was one of the best third-party keyboards for Android, with a focus on swipe typing and voice dictation. But all good things must come to an end, and Nuance Communications Inc has confirmed that Swype is no longer under development. Swype for Android arrived on the Play Store in 2013, developed by the same company behind the 'Dragon' natural speaking software. It was popular for a while, even with a privacy issue or two. A user on Reddit recently emailed the developers about a bug, but received the following response: Quote Nuance will no longer be updating the Swype+Dragon keyboard for Android. We’re sorry to leave the direct-to-consumer keyboard business, but this change is necessary to allow us to concentrate on developing our AI solutions for sale directly to businesses. We hope you enjoyed using Swype, we sure enjoyed working with the Swype community. Shortly afterwards, XDA Developers reached out to Nuance, and the company confirmed it was ending development of Swype. It's still on the Play Store, so if you want a dead keyboard app for some reason, grab it while you can. ADN
Swype Keyboard For iOS Pulled From App Store As Support For Android Is Discontinued Fans of the Swype keyboard on Android and iOS will need to find an alternative solution if they want to be able to receive any updates to their text input method after the company behind it, Nuance, confirmed that both versions of the software are now discontinued. While the decision to kill off Swype for iOS was actually announced earlier this month, with the keyboard also removed from the App Store, the decision is only now receiving attention after XDA Developers received confirmation that the Android version would also not receive any further development from the company. The keyboard’s app on Android and on iOS will no longer receive updates, a move which Nuance says was necessary for the company’s continued push into the enterprise market where it has begun selling AI and voice recognition software to medical professionals and even for use in cars. Nuance will no longer be offering the Swype keyboard on iOS app store. We’re sorry to leave the direct-to-consumer keyboard business, but this change is necessary to allow us to concentrate on developing our AI solutions for sale directly to businesses. We hope you enjoyed using Swype, we sure enjoyed working with the Swype community.” Nuance also made a similar statement regarding its Android offering, too. The death of Swype will be felt by many, but there are also plenty of other, and indeed similar keyboard solutions available for both iOS and Android. SwitftKey and GBoard are two which immediately spring to mind, although the latter would certainly be the closest to Swype in terms of core functionality. dcs18
Back in the days it was a hot contest between Swype Keyboard + Dragon and SwiftKey Keyboard + Emoji SwiftKey Keyboard — this closely matched rivalry lasted for the time that SwiftKey Keyboard + Emoji SwiftKey Keyboard was a shareware . . . . . but, once SwiftKey went freeware, its functionality nosedived into decline. Nevertheless, SwiftKey Keyboard + Emoji SwiftKey Keyboard is still a choice of second preference (for me.)
Recruit
@dcs18 Do you have Android 8 ? Did you already switch to it or you are still using Swype Keyboard + Dragon? In case that you have Oreo and you have not exchanged it yet, do tell us, please, how it is. I need to know how Swype Keyboard + Dragon got used to A8. I have not got the update yet, and I am quite lazy to test it via an emulator..... Thanks, Man !
dcs18
Nah, I'm still running Nougat (LineageOS 14.1) — Swype Keyboard + Dragon works fine, for me. However, the useful Swype Row Xposed module does not support the V3.
