Back in 2013, ridesharing company Uber launched its app for Windows phone devices, but quickly removed it following user complaints claiming that it's nothing more than a web wrapper for the firm's site. In 2014, it officially launched a relatively better Windows Phone 8/8.1 app, which was praised by many as an important piece in closing Microsoft's app gap problem. Then, in late 2015, it unveiled a new app for Windows 10 Mobile and PCs which leveraged the powers of Microsoft's Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and Cortana.

In a way, it can be said that Uber has been a staunch supporter of Microsoft's mobile efforts when most other firms have given up. However, this changes today.

As reported by MSPoweruser, it appears that Uber has dropped support for its Windows 10 app. Thousands of reviews on the store page claim that the app is hardly functional and can't locate the pickup location on the map anymore. While Uber hasn't officially made an announcement yet, the company's support has apparently responded with the following message:

Yes, we’re no longer supporting app on Windows. You can use Uber with the following smart devices instead:

-iPhone (iOS 7 or newer)

-Android (Jelly Bean or newer)

While it's certainly no surprise that Uber has dropped support for the Windows 10 app given the state of Windows 10 Mobile - which diminishes the need for a phone app based on UWP - we have reached out to the company for confirmation and clarification and will update if it responds.

Another clueless vendor that thinks iOS = iPhone.

Even Google are similarly clueless... Google searches tell me my location is "as reported by this phone"... on my iPad.

You can just goto m.uber.com in any browser to use Uber from any device.

Location support will be device dependent, but you can manually enter the addresses.
