The VideoLAN project targets multimedia streaming of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and DivX files, DVDs, digital satellite channels, digital terrestial television channels and live videos on a high-bandwidth IPv4 or IPv6 network in unicast or multicast under many OSes. VideoLAN also features a cross-platform multimedia player, VLC, which can be used to read the stream from the network or display video read locally on the computer under all GNU/Linux flavours, all BSD flavours, Windows, Mac OS X, BeOS, Solaris, QNX, Familiar Linux. VideoLAN is free software, and is released under the GNU General Public License. It started as a student project at the French École Centrale Paris but is now a worldwide project with developers from 20 countries.

Thanks to EGYGO for the update.

To the features descried in the OP, it might be added that the player comes with own codecs and doesn't require messing with external ones.

It can also play packed and partly downloaded videos, even some damaged ones.

I have been using it for years as my main media player.  It's easy enough for basic functions, but I point out that some of its additional features are not quite intuitive. But you can find tutorials on them.

From Forum VLC :

Because many tech news sites are saying that VLC 3 is released and can be downloaded from there. Our infrastructure can't handle the load, plus it's not released as of now. Hold on for a few extra hours

These links may open a tab where you can download:

32-Bit: https://www.videohelp.com/download/vlc-3.0.0-win32.exe

64-Bit: https://www.videohelp.com/download/vlc-3.0.0-win64.exe

Or copy and paste the url's below into a download manager (like Internet Download Manager):

 https://www.videohelp.com/download/vlc-3.0.0-win32.exe
 https://www.videohelp.com/download/vlc-3.0.0-win64.exe

These are not official releases and are also unofficial installer packages.

Huh?

The 32-Bit has the same CRC32 - 9F1E96D6 - to the one that was available from videolan.org.

I assume the 64-Bit does also.

Both 32-Bit & 64-Bit are digitally signed by VideoLAN.

Also, the 32-Bit link on videolan.org at time of posting is working:

https://downloads.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/3.0.0/win32/vlc-3.0.0-win32.exe

Directory:

https://downloads.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/3.0.0/win32/

@Chancer@Israeli_Eagle@Kalju@T3rM1nat0Rr3

Bugs in x64 version:

There are bugs undisclosed. Hence, they removed the x64 installer temporarily.

Please note that the downloads provided in frontpage s/w updates, frontpage are official stable releases which I've already briefed long time ago in old version threads. I mean these:

FYI:

Anything from here ["https://downloads.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/" or "https://downloads.videolan.org/vlc/" or " https://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/last/ " and mirrors from "https://get.videolan.org/vlc/" or "https://get.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/" - inactive] are all Official Stable Downloads and Official Stable Mirrors!

@Israeli_Eagle Thanks for reminding. I didn't use that link for long post 2.2.5.1 since they are not updated when there is new stable release.

No chance ; I think that's the version that's buggy. :)

It isn't buggy for normal use. I have it both x86+x64 installed on another win 7 x64 device and its working without issues.

The 'Show Extended Settings' button does not seem to work (x64).

It's working with VLC 3.0.0 x64 on these test systems Win 7, 8.1 x64. Backup or note the custom settings and then Try re-install with these installer selections -> full -> Delete Preferences & Cache selected -> Custom.

I never understood the hype around VLC, It is so inferior compared to Potplayer for advanced users. Anyway I'll give it a try.
