The reputable German AV-Test Institut at Magdeburg regularly tests antivirus products against a number of criteria: detection, false alarms, speed, usability and burden on resources.

This time, 19 such tools were assessed.

All attained the minimum score set for satisfactory performance.

Three got full marks: Kaspersky, McAfee and Vipre.

Closely followed by: BitDefender, TrendMicro and AhnLab.

At the bottom came: GData, K7 and MicroWorld eScan.

I notice that 7 get a top rating although one (avira) doesn't score a maximum in protection, surely a prerequisite for a top score

In the OP report, Avira scored a notch below maximum in detection but was good in the other criteria and ended up a little below the leaders.

Full detection performance is of course a primary criterion. The trouble is that it's often accompanied by comparatively a high false detection rate which spoils it. In fact, deleting false "virus" finds can damage your system, something that happened several times in the past, e.g. with AVG, but never with Avira, as far as I have seen.

I wouldnt rely to much on those anti virus testing sites If had to rely on one I would only rely on virus bulletin but in reality best way to find out is try one in a test machine latest version with updated virus definitions and then go to crack sites keygen sites download cracks and keygens from unknown websites go to porn sites test there and see what the antivirus does and do this with many different antiviruses at the same time if you dont it could take you months to figure out the best one.  You dont know if avtest and av comparatives allows the antivirus to buy testing results or not and virus bulletin may or may not be different.  Only real way to tell is what I said above.

I would not trust av-test.org, they might as well admit that they receive kickbacks from BitDefender. The false charts are so blatant it's like they don't even care to put effort. av-test.org claims that Bit Defender is faster in performance than ESET, really? On what parallel universe? I have tried BitDefender and it is complete and utter garbage, it's heavy and lard, and to top it off you could easily wreck your entire OS because half the time it can't be uninstalled.

av-test.org also ranks McAfee, Trend Micro, F-Secure, and Windows Defender higher than Vipre, Avira, and Eset in the protection category. Also that F-Secure, Comodo, and Bit Defender ranks higher than Kaspersky in protection category is another joke. I also tried Trend Micro recently, the useless trash deleted a bunch of legitimate cracks and keygens.

Not that ESET is perfect in my eyes, I have openly expressed my grievances about their features in the past, but after trying a few alternatives I unwillingly ended up renewing my ESET license simply because the alternatives are worse.

Just my opinion.

I have Eset  nod 32 antivirus and am more than happy with it.....It just does its job and keeps out of the way.

In the past I tried to install Bitdefender and it wouldn't work right and kept crashing.

Bad topic header, but... some notes:

German AV-TEST examined 20 Internet security suites for Windows 10 in December 2017. The products were evaluated in the categories of protection, performance and usability, and were able to achieve the maximum of 6 points in each category.  Kaspersky, McAfee and Vipre got maximum total points - 18.0, other TOP PRODUCTS were AhnLab, Avira, Bitdefender and Trend Micro with their 17.5 total points.

For years, Windows Defender always ended up at the bottom of the test table in terms of malware detection. But here’s a surprise: In the meantime, Defender has worked its way up the list with better detection quality and got maximum points of protection. Defender got only 4.0 points of usability, the lab tests of false positives.

A noticeably higher system load was generated by the packages from Comodo, K7 Computing, ESET and Panda Security. They received a mere 4.5 to 3.5 points of performance. This is why Eset with its 15.0 points was weakest of all tested antiviruses.

The best Antivirus for Linux  I don't care because I never use  one. Windows i don't really care ether  but ive been using NOD32 since 2014 and never been infected  and i never installed anything based on any test  and i think there full of :shit:  No antivirus  can stop a 0day designed to not be detected  because they don't have the signature .   Keep using that Windows Defender  letting Microsoft deciced what you can install on you're PC.   Back when I tired it on rs2 when  I installed Windows 10 Firewall Control with  it brought  me PC  to a crawl . As soon i disabled it  was fine and I installed NOD32 it was still fine.  Theres more to and Antivirus than just detection , Theres false positives  and performance  as well . Most Antivirus who scores high in these test  have lots of false positives or  they  make you're PC crawl.  Only reason I use a Antivirus  at all on Windows is just encase Ive not been infected with nothing that i know of since 2008.

Kaspersky Internet Security is the best one. That's my opinion after 4 years of using KIS.

I always wonder if somebody cares about the test results - how do you think is keeping this test company's alive?

@Chatman

Doe you use a separate firewall? I was wondering that there is no white list function  = the integrated firewall maybe is sufficient for user with only paid software but for user that has to block some software / medicine from internet access

UPDATE

May 30, 2018

I won't start a new thread, as the intro and testing arrangements are the same as before.

So these are the latest comparison test results as they refer to antivirus products for Windows 10 64 bit systems.

All candidates comfortably achieved the minimum pass grade.

AVIRA and AhnLab achived the maximum 18 points.

Just behind them come: Kaspersky, McAfee and Trend Micro.

All 5 earn the title “Top Product”.

Windows Defender only lost half a point in each category, but that was enough to push it to the bottom third of the results.

The following also got full marks for protection (but lost in other categories): Bitdefender, BullGuard, MicroWorld eScan, Norton Security, Vipre and F-Secure. Bitdefender lost a full point for giving too many false positives, F-Secure considerably more.
