Java Runtime Environment 9.0.1

jalaffa

Recommended Posts

The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provides the libraries, the Java Virtual Machine, and other components to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. In addition, two key deployment technologies are part of the JRE: Java Plug-in, which enables applets to run in popular browsers; and Java Web Start, which deploys standalone applications over a network. Users should install the 32-bit version if they are using 32-bit browsers. If you use both 32-bit and 64-bit browser interchangeably, you need a Java Plug-in for each browser. Hence you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively.

Thanks to Astron for the update.

Version 8 Update 151

Release date October 17, 2017

Release Highlights

  • IANA Data 2017b
JDK 8u151 contains IANA time zone data version 2017b. For more information, refer to Timezone Data Versions in the JRE Software.
  • Certificate Changes: Remove revoked Swisscom root certificate 'swisscomrootevca2'
One Swisscom root certificate has been revoked by Swisscom and has been removed: Swisscom Root EV CA 2
    alias: 'swisscomrootevca2 [jdk]'
    DN: CN=Swisscom Root EV CA 2, OU=Digital Certificate Services, O=Swisscom, C=ch

    JDK-8186330 (not public)
  • New Features New Security property to control crypto policy
This release introduces a new feature whereby the JCE jurisdiction policy files used by the JDK can be controlled via a new Security property. In older releases, JCE jurisdiction files had to be downloaded and installed separately to allow unlimited cryptography to be used by the JDK.
  • Changes Refactor existing providers to refer to the same constants for default values for key length
  • Changes Collections use serialization filter to limit array sizes
Deserialization of certain collection instances will cause arrays to be allocated. The ObjectInputFilter.checkInput() method is now called prior to allocation of these arrays.
  • Changes keytool now prints warnings when reading or generating certificates/certificate requests/CRLs using weak algorithms
With one exception, keytool will always print a warning if the certificate, certificate request, or CRL it is parsing, verifying, or generating is using a weak algorithm or key.

Bug Fixes

This release contains fixes for security vulnerabilities. For more information, see the Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Update Advisory.

For a list of bug fixes included in this release, see JDK 8u151 Bug Fixes page.

Java Expiration Date

The JRE expires whenever a new release with security vulnerability fixes becomes available. Critical patch updates, which contain security vulnerability fixes, are announced one year in advance on Critical Patch Updates, Security Alerts and Third Party Bulletin. This JRE (version 8u151) will expire with the release of the next critical patch update scheduled for January 16, 2018.

For systems unable to reach the Oracle Servers, a secondary mechanism expires this JRE (version 8u151) on February 16, 2018. After either condition is met (new release becoming available or expiration date reached), Java will provide additional warnings and reminders to users to update to the newer version.

I thought there wasn’t a 32 bit? Is there really a 9.0 .3 version? I couldn’t find it on the official site.

What happen was  the 1st release of v9  was same as a preview version and they released x86 preview .

The DEVs  Enplaned it  Here in this Q&A Video

https://youtu.be/Pr2v9E_oPXI?t=30m25s

I tested the  x86 java 9 version  none of my x86 programs  ran with it .. But if you have apps that need the x86 version of Java  you need too use v8 .  Some apps will  still have x86 Java  but the app vendor  will have too supply  it  if it has Java 9 or newer . There trying too do away with people needing  too install it and get vendors too release it  in the apps installer instead .

Bad thing is once Java  8 no longer gets updates  now you're going have too use outdated Java too run old x86 software they don't make no more unless there is some kind of workaround  made.  See  Java  plugin is just about dead for browsers  once ESR  runs out  only  some browser forks will be able too use i.t v9 they done away  with Java Plugin . No web sites run off Java much in like 10 years and using Java in a browser is a good way too catch a Virus.  it's not really needed for home users  in browsers anymore. And  few programs on Windows requires Java  anymore so they don't  think it's worth the resources  it takes too make a x86 version.  Java  x64 only is a security disaster fixing too happen .:protest:

NO it's all true:D

And as they said others hopefully  will continue developing the X32 because a lot of users still depending on it.

I was just disappointed in fact that they don't even care

And thanks for being helpful as always.

That's the problem with most people they  just ask  questions when the internet  provides you with most answers  you seek already  by doing a little research  you don't have too ask .  some has done ask it a 100 times in places were you get real answers . The truth hurts people  and they rather believe a lie.  Java is no longer needed too design websites  for over a decade people been catching Virus from Java in browsers since the 1990s it was such a security risk  that  the major browsers  blocked its plugin from installing. They have another safer way to implement  this now.

So the only thing left for the consumer is software  starting in 2018 there going  too start pushing App devs  to release java themselves . There will still be 32 bit java it just want be oracle releasing it ,  if the software vendors want too release it with there programs they can it just x86 is not for consumers and people who use servers are not considered consumers   .

I'm using java based programs for some stuff  not portable on my Windows 8.1 PC ,  but i have portable java witch is sandbox away from my system so i guess i ll just replace my non portable apps with java free programs  on windows . One time i stop using Java for a few years what got me back into it was Linux .  On  the PC I'm on now Windows 10  Ive not installed Java and  I think i will just use the portable Java i have in my Portableapps suite on my portable Hard drive so if they don't make a portable i want use it  . I need too learn how too make them myself. :D

There is no normal sites that use Java anymore  only way you would find any  would be too google them down   the browsers have blocked it's plugin . Still Schools and Businesses that need Java  they have another way to implement it now .  You Would  have  too use Java Web Start now . Java 9 is  the end of  the Java plugin for  browsers.

JavaScript ≠ Java. The obvious difference is JS doesn't need Java runtime.

JavaScript is not Java  it was made  by different people even

James Gosling Invented Java

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Gosling

Brendan Eich  invented  java script the guy who makes Brave Browser now .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendan_Eich

Quote

How is JavaScript different from Java?

The JavaScript programming language, developed by Netscape, Inc., is not part of the Java platform.

JavaScript does not create applets or stand-alone applications. In its most common form, JavaScript resides inside HTML documents, and can provide levels of interactivity to web pages that are not achievable with simple HTML.

Key differences between Java and JavaScript:

  • Java is an OOP programming language while Java Script is an OOP scripting language.
  • Java creates applications that run in a virtual machine or browser while JavaScript code is run on a browser only.
  • Java code needs to be compiled while JavaScript code are all in text.
  • They require different plug-ins.
