AV-TEST performs endurance Windows antivirus test

How ironic! The antivirus that the United States is trying so hard to ban proved to be the most powerful security product for Windows in a new endurance test performed by German institute AV-TEST.

The test involved a total of 18 Internet security suits and was conducted during six straight months between January and June 2017, with close evaluation of protection, performance, and usability for each product.

AV-TEST says a total of 13 products managed to obtain 16 points, which means they provide good protection without hampering system performance. Overall, more than two third of the solutions topped the charts with 16 to 18 points.

Kaspersky’s Internet Security was the star of the show with a total of 18 points, as it received 6 points for each of the three aforementioned sections. Two different solutions got pretty close to leader Kaspersky with 17.8 points, namely Symantec Norton Security and Trend Micro Internet Security, both of which received 6 points for protection and performance, but only 5.8 points for usability.

The best free antivirus

The best free antivirus is Avast, which got a total of 16.5 points, as it follows: 6 points for protection, 4.7 points for performance, and 5.7 points for usability.

AV-TEST says the research clearly shows that paid antivirus solutions are still better than their free siblings, so it looks like it’s still worth paying for third-party antivirus protection on a Windows system.

Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 both come with Windows Defender enabled by default, but the test indicates that as compared to third-party protection, Microsoft’s security solution is years behind.

Windows Defender received only 15.5 points, with just one app performing worse – Comodo Internet Security Premium which received 13.6 points. Windows Defender was rewarded with 5.2 points for protection, 4.8 points for performance, and 5.5 points for usability.

“The internal protection solution from Windows, Defender, at 15.5 points finishes among the last products at the bottom of the table. Thus, the product's only claim to fame is that after all, it is better than the package from Comodo,” AV-TEST concluded.

It's good to have 98.7% protection out of the box, will get better

Seems like US Gov wants Americans to use Symantec or better Windows Defender instead???
