Matsuda
Windows 7 is still the most widely used version of Windows in the world, and was the primary casualty of the recent NotPetya and WannaCry outbreaks. Despite its popularity as a target, by far the biggest reason for Windows 7 machines being classed as not "protected" in Microsoft's telemetry data is that they don't run any antivirus. Microsoft's graph compares four main reasons why Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 aren't protected. For Windows Vista and Windows 7, over 50 percent of unprotected machines aren't running any AV. The remainder have AV installed, but it's either switched off or doesn't have up-to-date virus signatures. By comparison, the main reason Windows 10 machines were unprotected was out-of-date signatures or the AV was snoozed, while Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 were mostly unprotected because the AV product was turned off. Microsoft notes a possible explanation for Windows 8/8.1 is that several malware families are capable of switching off anti-malware products. The graph says nothing about what proportion of users on each version of Windows are unprotected. In 2013 Microsoft reported that 24 percent of Windows PCs weren't protected by up-to-date antivirus. Back then, Microsoft encouraged Windows users to install one of several third-party products in addition to its own for protection. Today it's had to publicly reaffirm several timesthat it really does believe a "healthy antivirus ecosystem" is what's best for Windows 10 security. steven36
LOL so much for all the hype Microsoft dont spy on windows 7 users ..I try too explain this on gHacks in the comments that now the updates for windows 7 are cumulative and now there backporting telemetry from windows 10 so unless you use a ip sniffer you don't know what Windows 7 is doing in the background and Martin got mad and deleted my post. He dont like the fact all these peoples Tinfoil hat are broken and all that hype about Windows 7 being better for privacy is based on before windows 7 got cumulative updates it's not present reality for the people who trust Windows 7 and do nothing on there own to block Microsoft's data sucker . SPECTRUM
telemetry exist since Windows XP (probably in Windows 98SE too), even without updates/service packs, and is related with WER technologies: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Error_Reporting

Now they are doing it, and my friend is right to raise an alarm. More and more computers cannot run anything except a “signed” operating system – signed by Microsoft or the hardware manufacturer. In other words, if they haven’t given the A-OK that what you’re using is as it should be, you get cut off. Moreover, the “we certify it or what you bought won’t work” extends to every program you run. This is already inside any computer that is sold as “Ready for Windows 8.” When you install Windows 8, these capabilities are automatically activated. Once that’s done, you will need major computer skills to wipe it off your machine and install something better. What this all means is that, in the not too distant future – if you use a Windows machine – you might be limited to a small selection of pre-approved, pre-sanitized, privacy-questionable programs. https://www.freemansperspective.com/microsoft-spying/ They think anyone who don't run a Antivirus computers should not be allowed on the internet and they been thinking that for a long time . My daily driver PC is a old AMD processor before they put spy chips in AMD, fact is Intel had them much longer than AMD did. Now it's no longer just a OS problem it's a baked into you're hardware problem too and Linux users cant even escape it unless they use old hardware.
