[OS discussion] Recommendations, Opinions

(sorry, if it is wrong place, couldn't decide where to post)

Would love to know your personal preferences?

I used whole load, played with many, but still as a main PC use W7... Most convenient as to say

unix systems liked many, but come to need of configuration, apps and hardware compatibility "hard work", as to say.

Do like few Bootable OS'es, but hard to be reliant on those, as whenever on the go or using somebodies else's network need of BIOS reconfigurations (sometimes messing up boot-loaders etc), kind of not 100% reliable way of going about the things.

Not a secret, that 99% of all viruses and vulnerabilities are associated with Windows, hence tried playing with Android emulation and/or dual boot... bit of pain in that respect, that really no additional control or security is left to end user, aprt from what is configured and apps (glorified zip's)  often have permissions etc embedded that makes that sort of computing even more security flawed, than using Windows.

Few articles, as what I am talking about:

Opinions gents?

Main OS = Windows 7 x64

In my wife's notebook - Windows 8 Pro = tri- boot => Fedora Cinnamon + ChaletOS.

I don't like Windows 8... Only she uses it... Fedora is my main OS... ChaletOS is used for working purposes...

ZorinOS is a great choice too... I used to love it... 'Till I knew Fedora... All of them is highly recommended...

Linux = Windows.

There you go, the only difference between Linux and Windows is that Windows is supported by 99,99% of Hardware and Software manufacturers, no hassle.

Using Linux doesn't make you magically safe or average, a headline in the news isn't a fact, it's only about clicks, you can be as safe with Linux as you are with Windows and vice versa. If you are willing to adapt and do proper changes required to give you a safe home, ofc.

Hard to argue, just seeing, if something new worth playing about has come up lately. Starting from Unix'es of 5mb and safe big app, kinda makes me want to ditch Windows and start using some sort of portable apps usable OS option to be booting ie from USB and have  OS.. and safe... and small.. and... when then ... pigs will fly :P

Don't get me wrong, i appreciate you attempting to walk a different route, i forgot to mention almost everyone uses Windows, not wanting to try something different getting used to the old and known stuff.

Especially with Windows 10, i feel ya.

I wouldn't mind leaving dormant (wins on PC)... have partitions for the files, but boot up and use something anonymous safe reliable... somehow w10 didn't even cross my mind ;)

And right so, fuck W10, to be honest. I guess that one release really started people to think about what they are using day in and day out, realizing what it has become.

I'm still on Windows 8, no, not 8.1, just 8 and it's ok to me. :fool:

out of the Wins w7 is best IMHO, but it is besides the point as of what I am aiming in search for "outside of the box" OS'es to play about, as making bootable W7 is possibility, but again ever so troublesome...

Anybody tested

https://tails.boum.org

?

Love tails, I always throw it on as part of my multiboot usb builds, with Strelec, cain, Hirens 12.1 restored, and Gen2 releases, include snappy driver (offline) and you can do anything with one.. My Mcgyver stick as I call them.

OK, thanks for the recommendation, will have to "build the same set up" ;)
